Western Wisconsin Open: Catcher Anlysis

The Western Wisconsin Open took place on Monday July 10th at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Today we start the analysis with scouting reports on the catchers. At the end of the week we will roll out the top position players and pitchers from the event.

Scouting Reports (Listed Alphabetically)

Justin Baehler, C/OF, Mineral Point, 2020
5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed hitting C/OF. At the plate hits from a slightly open setup with an arm bar load and average balance.. Opposite field hitter with a long swing path. 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.75. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws showed carry from the crouch. Popped 2.25-2.30 and threw 71 mph from the crouch. Threw 76 mph from the outfield.

Caden Dupee, 2B/RHP/C, Ladysmith, 2019
5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed hitting utility player. At the plate hits from a tall, setup, short stride with fair balance. Long swing path. 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.18. Defensively in the infield has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm angle. Long exchange and release. Threw 77 mph across the infield. Behind the plate popped 2.54-2.58 and threw 71 mph from the crouch. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop and drive delivery with an open landing. Fastball sat 74-75 topping out at 77 mph. Threw a curveball and a slider. Both have the same breaking action . Curveball sat 66-67 mph, slider sat 64-67 mph.

Trevor Gustafson, C, Webster, 2019
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a lanky frame. At the plate hits from a balanced, slightly open setup. Line drive hitter with a smooth load and good balance. 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.47. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Popped 2.18-2.25 and threw 73 mph from the crouch.

Mikey Kirkbride, C/OF, Pewaukee, 2018
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting C/OF. At the plate hits from a balanced, slightly open setup. Leg lift stride with average balance. Long, level swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.52. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Popped 2.36-2.51 and threw 68 mph from the crouch. Also took drills in the outfield and threw 73 mph.

Kolton Koch, C, Monona Grove, 2018
5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher with a strong, compact frame. At the plate hits from a crouched, open setup with a leg kick stride average balance. Line drive hitter with an uphill swing path and a fast bat. 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.24. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Quick footwork and a clean exchange. Popped 2.11-2.25 and threw 70 mph from the crouch. Showed flexibility in the lower half receiving, low target for pitchers. Works hard behind the plate, active blocker.

Colin Lekvin, C, Eau Claire Memorial, 2019
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate hits from a tall setup with a short stride and average balance. Long, uphill swing path. 74 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.64. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Uphill throws with a long exchange. Popped 2.33-2.40 and threw 70 mph from the crouch.
