Wisconsin 2016 Rankings Updated

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director – Wisconsin/Illinois

After the recent 2016 Top Prospect Games (follow the link to check out all the new videos) at UIC many of Wisconsin’s finest 2016 prospects showed well and have climbed the rankings in Wisconsin. Most notably Ben Rortvedt (Verona Area) who was just on the outside looking in after our first rankings, has jumped up to No. 5 in the state after his stellar performance at UIC. Rortvedt showed tremendous bat speed from his highly physical frame along with advanced arm strength out of the crouch.

At the top of the charts a new No. 1 headlines the list with Justin Lavey (Kenosha Tremper). Lavey had an impressive showing at the 2016 Top Prospect Games and proved he’s capable of being one of the top prospects in the Midwest. In at No. 2 is Gavin Lux (Indian Trail), watching Lavey and Lux play on the same infield together makes it extremely difficult to rank the two. They both proved that they are two of the top infielders in the Midwest. While Lavey is currently more physically advanced, Lux is showing flashes of pull power that you wouldn’t expect out of his slight build. Either way you can’t go wrong with these two.

The list which was initially at 10 is now up to 25 as we’ve seen many of the top prospects in the state. Many new additions include T.D. Walker (Milwaukee Lutheran), Travis Berg (Eau Claire Memorial), Matt McCarty (South Milwaukee), Justin Kendall (Holmen) and Connor Kimple (Marquette University).
