Wisconsin 2017 Rankings: New Additions

By Steve Nielsen

Last week we updated Wisconsin’s 2017 rankings and walked you through the top 10. Today we will take a deeper look at some of the new additions to the 2017 rankings.

The 2017 class rankings expanded from 30 to 75 players and we won’t be able to touch on all of the new additions but here’s a few that made an impact on the top half of the rankings.

We mention in our release story SS Alex Rodriguez and RHP Nathan Burns who both are new to the rankings and made it into the top ten.

The next highest new addition is Kenosha Tremper’s Alex Tricoli-Walkanoff who made the top 15. The infielder has smooth actions and soft hands and is off to a solid start this spring with the Trojans seeing significant playing time on the jam packed Tremper infield.

Nicholas Urban-Michalak (Racine Park) showed some of the more advanced tools we’ve seen at that age. He ran a 6.86 and threw it 87 across the diamond. We’ll have to see how that plays on the field this spring for Park.

LHP James Grassl (Waukesha West) also made the top 20, he shows excellent feel and projection and has already topped out at 82 mph.

Moving on to the top 25 is another highly projectable arm. Waukesha South’s Charlie Peterson has a quick arm on a slight long build that will certainly fill out and be a strong follow.

Fourteen more new prospects made the top 50:

Benjamin Graham (Mukwonago), Jack Thelen (West Bend West), Nathan Hefle (Germantown), Nathan Aide (Franklin), Chris DeKrey (Jefferson), Ryan Hoerter (Indian Trail), Trentin Uttech (Luther Prep), Cameron Cratic (Madison East), Christian McKelvey (Germantown), Jarret Sheelk (Green Bay Preble), Paul Petit (Regis), Nicholas Elsen (Indian Trail), Bryce Cross (Hortonville) and Calvin Snyder (Shorewood).
