Wisconsin 2020 Rankings Updated

For the top ranked prospect in Wisconsin, it’s been a national tour like none other for AJ Vukovich (East Troy, Louisville). One that only the likes of past first rounders Gavin Lux (Indian Trail, 2016) and Jarred Kelenic (Waukesha West, 2018) have been on, and Vukovich is putting himself in prime position to follow the every-other-year trend of first day draft picks out of the Badger State. 

Vukovich has been tearing up the national scene showing off plus-plus power that is not just raw, but playable in game. The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder put it all on display in Cleveland during the MLB All-Star weekend. Vukovich was one of eight prep players chosen to participate in the weekend’s high school home run derby. His 18 bombs out of Progressive Field earned him a spot in the finals where he lost 7-6 to Blaze Jordan (DeSoto Central, MS, 2020). 

RHP Tyler Chadwick (Marshall, West Virginia) has spent his summer refining his repertoire and pitchability while sitting in the low 90’s nearly every outing and touching 94’s throughout the summer. Chadwick has continued to sharpen his stuff this summer, looking more and more like a front end starter every time we see him. His command and secondary stuff have improved through the summer months, and at no sacrifice to his trademark velocity. Chadwick will regularly sit in the 89-92 mph range for longer stints and touch 94 mph with relative ease.

Next to Vukovich, Clemson commit Max Wagner (Green Bay Preble) is the best right-handed bat in the class. Wagner picked up right where he left off in the spring and hitting at a torrid pace most of the summer. His premium right-handed bat is ready to play in the ACC and could be talked about this spring in MLB Draft discussions.

LHP Luke Fox (Catholic Memorial), a Duke commit, has moved up to No. 4 in the state. Fox has been as consistently good as we’ve seen him this summer. Regularly sitting 86-90 mph with his fastball and two well above average secondary pitches. Fox may have the best three pitch mix in the state and does it about as easily as it gets. On top of that he’s a high end athlete and only scratching the surface of what he’s likely to be at Duke. 

Tommy Lamb (Grafton, Oklahoma) has surged this summer since his last outing of the spring where he dominated for six-plus innings in the state sectionals. He’s repeated that performance multiple times this summer and his curveball is a clear separator. His curveball is easily the best breaking ball in the class, it plays hard and sharp and up to 79 mph. Pair that with an easy 85-88 mph fastball and you have the No. 5 prospect in the state. Lamb makes a ten spot jump this update and has done it with clear pitchability and ease. His outings have looked like a relative walk in the park for him, carrying his 88 mph fastball deep into starts with little effort.

Recent Minnesota commit, RHP George Klassen (Port Washington), has the most electric arm in the class. He’s still working to harness his plus velocity, and when he does it’s nearly unhittable stuff. He’s shown flashes of it this summer and when he’s on, he’s on. We’ve seen him up to 95 mph this summer and has made some national noise with his fastball while creating draft buzz heading into the fall.

LHP Ben Hampton (West De Pere) is the second West Virginia commit in the state and moves into the top ten for the first time. Next to Lamb, Hampton brings one of the best curveballs in the state. He has a plus breaking ball that is a sharp 1/7 biter with a ton of feel, confidence and late action.
