Wisconsin Class of 2019 Rankings Updated

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

The last Wisconsin rankings update of the year is rolling out today with an update to Wisconsin’s 2019 Rankings. We’ve expanded to 50 and the list includes several newcomers, including an addition to the top ten.

Much of the top ten went unchanged, as the class is shaping up to feature a ton of high profile prospects. Five of the top ten have already made verbal college commitments, four of which are in the Big Ten.

Xavier Watson (South Milwaukee) remains at the top spot. The Illinois recruit is a premium middle infield defender who’s bat is catching up to his defensive prowess.

RANK NAME STATE SCHOOL CLASS POS COMMITMENT
1 Xavier Watson WI South Milwaukee 2019 SS Illinois
2 Nathan Stevens WI Waunakee 2019 C Arkansas
3 Eli Kramer WI Hortonville 2019 OF Nebraska
4 Dan Blomgren WI Janesville Craig 2019 SS Michigan
5 Drake Baldwin WI Madison West 2019 C
6 Steve Jamroziak WI Muskego 2019 OF
7 Paul Toetz WI Greendale 2019 3B Indiana
8 Tanner Peterson WI Wilmot 2019 OF
9 Jack Washburn WI Webster 2019 RHP
10 Andrew Biertzer WI Kewaskum 2019 LHP

The biggest change to the top ten was adding Webster HS RHP Jack Washburn to the mix. Washburn is a lanky righty with a ton of upside. We’ve seen him sit 83-86 mph earlier this fall with a lively fastball, and that was exclusively out of the stretch. His slider is a legit out pitch at 73-75 mph with tight spin and wipe out qualities. Washburn is the son of former major leaguer Jared Washburn, making his upside even more intriguing.

LHP Andrew Biertzer (Kewaskum) snuck into the top ten this update as he made a big jump with his fastball, reaching 86 mph. Biertzer is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound southpaw with a ton of arm strength for his age.
