Wisconsin Class of 2020 Rankings Released

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

The 2020 Overall Rankings were released in mid-April and two Wisconsin freshman made the top 100. LHP Ryan Stefiuk (Green Bay Preble) and Louisville commit AJ Vukavich (East Troy) both made the prestigious list and sit atop the Wisconsin state rankings in the 2020 class.

Ryan Stefiuk is the younger brother of Bradley commit RHP Paul Stefiuk (Green Bay Preble, 2018) and we’ve seen the younger southpaw since he was a seventh grader, and have been very high on him at an early age. He has always shown advanced arm strength for his age and has developed one of the better breaking balls we’ve seen out of a freshman. At 6-foot-3, 200-pounds, Stefiuk already looks the part on the mound with a young build that still has a ways to mature. Sitting 83-84 mph from the left side as a freshman puts him in a league of his own among Midwest prospects. He currently sits a No. 32 overall and his ceiling is yet to be determined.

AJ Vukovich also made the top 100 overall prospects and made an early verbal commit to Louisville in the fall of his freshman year. Vukovich is a highly projectable right-handed hitting third baseman, at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds he is long and lean and swings one of the best right-handed bats we’ve seen out of a freshman. Vukovich’s bat draws early comparisons to Arrowhead’s Jeff Holtz (2018), and if he continues on that path you’re looking at a 2020 draft prospect.

Rounding out the top ten 2020 prospects in the Badger State, left-handed pitching looks to be strong in this class. After Stefiuk, three more left-handed arms scatter the top ten. LHP Tommy Lamb (Grafton) comes in at No. 3. Lamb is exceptionally polished for his age, and comps to a former top southpaw in Wisconsin, Nick Winter (Milwaukee Lutheran, 2016). Lamb commands an 80-82 mph fastball and shows good feel for his secondary stuff.  LHP Luke Fox (Catholic Memorial) is contributing to the No. 15 ranked Crusaders and has run his fastball up to 84 mph with a hard curveball at 72-73. Kaden Krueger (Appleton West) rounds out the top left-handers in the state at No. 9, Krueger’s secondary stuff is still a work in progress, but has a quick arm that sits 80-81 mph.

A name who may look familiar is at No. 4, SS Joe Hauser (Sun Prairie). Hauser is the younger brother of Air Force commit Ben Hauser (Sun Prairie, 2017). Joe is a savvy middle infielder who has been hitting two-hole for the No. 5 Cardinals and starting at second base. Hauser is a premium athlete who looks to have all the defensive requisites to stay in the middle of the diamond.

The rest of the top ten features RHP Gavin Hinckley (West Bend West) who is an athletic arm that sits an easy 81-82 mph. 3B Colton Coca (Case) has a ton of upside and looks to profile well at the hot corner. OF Gunnar Doyle (Oak Creek) arguably swings the best left-handed bat in the class. He’s sneaky athletic in the outfield but his bat appears to be his carrying tool. MIF/RHP Taiten Manriquez (Waunakee) is a projectable two-way guy who can pick it on the infield with the best of them and up to 81 mph on the mound.
