Wisconsin Quick Hits

The Prep Baseball Report Future Games finished with a record attendance of players and coaches. Our final tally revealed 253 college coaches and professional scouts in attendance, and nearly 500 uncommitted 2020 prospects in attendance.
From a Wisconsin standpoint, here’s a quick rundown of some of the top performers on the weekend.

RHP Tyler Chadwick (Marshall, 2020) headlined the weekend coming in to close out Thursday’s game with an electric fastball topping at 93 mph, and virtually sitting in the low 90’s with a swing and miss fastball. He backed up that outing on Saturday with a more polished performance, starting the game, and mixing in his breaking ball while showing he has the ability to be a front end rotation guy at the next level. Chadwick clearly made his presence felt and made his college commitment to West Virginia while at the event.

3B Max Wagner (Green Bay Preble, 2020) rarely missed the barrel on any of his swings all weekend. Wagner proved he is one of the more balanced hitters in the 2020 class with an uncanny hand eye to find the barrel with regularity. He’s a natural athlete and athletic enough to play any corner spot on the field or even as an offensive second baseman. His 6.91 speed plays up in game as well as he gets out of the box well and shows above average instincts on the bases. Wagner’s bat will be his carrying tool but he showed he’s much more than just a bat.

Southpaws Kaden Krueger (Appleton West, 2020) and Brady Renfro (Antigo, 2020) stood out with upticks in velo. Krueger proved to be a deceptive lefty that touched 90 mph in game one, and backed it up in game three sitting 86-89 mph. His fastball plays heavy and gets swing and misses, his stock will only rise as his breaking ball improves. Renfro was up to 87 mph, a new high water mark for him, while still showed an above average breaking ball on 1/7 plane.

Wisconsin pitching had more 90 mph arms than ever before as RHP George Klassen (Port Washington, 2020) rounded out the trio premium velo arms. Klassen touched 92 mph in both of his outings (game one and game three). The 6-foot-1, 155-pound Klassen struck out the side in his second appearance around a couple of free passes, and as his control improves, there’s no ceiling for how far he can go.

The only 2021 prospect on the squad, RHP Vincent Trapani (Eau Claire Memorial), is extremely advanced for his age. Trapani looks to be the top 2021 prospect in the state and sat 86-88 mph in both outings.

Thomas Otto (Appleton North) finished his weekend the way he started it. Otto recorded one of the top exit velocities of the workout day on day one at 102 mph, and concluded his Future Games putting it to use in game play. Otto drove a pair of balls in consecutive at bats to the wall, one for a double and one for a triple.

RHP Connor Kurki (Iola-Scandinavia) was one of the bigger risers of the event, Kurki touched 88 mph and with his 6-foot-4, 165-pound frame and 78 mph breaking ball, Kurki projects to have way more in the tank, and is one of the easier arms to project on.
