X-FACTOR
Not many programs in the country bring back an impact bat like INF/OF Dominic Santarelli (2026, Louisville) who has done nothing but improve year over year. One of the top left-handed bats in the nation, Santarelli was named First Team All-State as a sophomore after posting a 1.590 OPS with 25 walks to just eight strikeouts on the year. The hit tool stands out with the intent to do damage at the plate, with 26 of his 40 hits on the season going for extra bases.
This winter Santarelli showed out in front of our staff, a more athletic and explosive version of himself further cutting his run time down by over half a second at 6.74 which is more than enough speed to move to the outfield. The Lancers already have a deep lineup around Santarelli, but the bat is truly a difference maker adding to an already otherwise loaded lineup.
IMPACT UNDERCLASSMEN
INF Patrick Davidson (2027) showed an overall improved skillset over the winter while adding physicality to his frame. Coming at a perfect time for the second year player who should see an increased role this upcoming season.
Davidson proved to be a capable varsity contributor as a freshman at the plate providing a steady presence when called on. Already a sound approach at the plate with steady bat-to-ball abilities while playing multiple positions.
TEAM OUTLOOK
As we mentioned previously, the Lancers bring back a loaded lineup with a core of top-end talent at the top of the lineup.
Returning four-year starter C/UTL Peter Visconti II (2025, Wisconsin-Milwaukee) has been one of the top players in this lineup for multiple seasons. Returning a .467 average with 21 extra base hits and nearly three times more walks than strikeouts while adding 26 stolen bases
As a junior, Visconti II had to move around the diamond, proving to be a versatile defender after seeing time on the left-side of the infield and in the outfield on top of his responsibilities behind the plate while maintaining a .98 fielding percentage on the year.
Junior INF Zach Rizzo (2026) adds another impact bat to the lineup, giving the Lancers a third run-producing type bat. Returning a .341 batting average and 24 RBIs to the lineup, Rizzo was another player that took advantage of the offseason separating himself as one of the strongest players in the state.
Rounding out the lineup is senior OF Tim Falk (2025) who's a proven capable bat at the varsity level to go along with the core group of bats previously mentioned.
On the mound, the Lancers return some of their top arms from last season including RHP Mason Ballard (2025, Highland CC) who received the lion share of innings last season tossing 56.1 innings as a junior going 8-3 with a 2.36 ERA.
Returning with Ballard is senior RHP Wyatt Hood (2025) who was one of the top performers on the mound pitching to a 2.71 ERA across 28.1 innings. Another potential option on the mound for the Lancers would be the aforementioned Rizzo.
On top of what Rizzo is capable of doing with the bat, the arm talent is there, showing a four-pitch mix over the winter with an upper-80s fastball and three secondaries to pair; one of the top high-school quarterbacks in the state as well. Any sort of feel for the zone in game would add a highly capable arm to the pitching staff.
BOTTOM LINE
Returning the majority of the run producers from last season, including one of the top bats in the nation, St. Joseph could find themselves with yet again another successful season this spring as they look to make another run at the state title.
