X-FACTOR

INF/RHP Logan Zaverl (2025, Iowa Western CC) returns a three-year starter for the Warhawks, earning a First Team All-Conference selection as a junior. The right-hander will anchor down the top of the rotation and is more than capable of operation as the ace this spring.

The right-hander went 5-3 last year with a 1.19 ERA and can reach 90 mph with his fastball with a firm breaking ball and splitter to pair.

At the plate, Zaverl looks to repeat his production as a part of a deep lineup. The right-hander hit .302 while providing steady production near the top of the order.

NEWCOMER TO WATCH

RHP/INF Carter Gordon (2027) hit at or near the middle of the order as a freshman providing a strong and explosive bat for the Warhawks this spring. Gordon has shown repeated feel to drive the ball in game and should only continue that production in his second year on varsity.

On the mound, Gordon has a chance to separate himself, armed with another 90 mph fastball with feel to locate his entire arsenal in the zone. One of the most talented sophomores in the state with the potential to claim a top spot in the rotation this spring.

TEAM OUTLOOK

“We have 6 pitchers committed to pitch in college, and the majority of our lineup returning” – Jay Wojcinski, head coach

The returning pitching staff sets the floor high on the season, on top of the aforementioned Zaverl and Gordon, a trio of seniors will also be heavily relied on this upcoming spring.

RHP Evan Lauer (2025, Bryant & Stratton) has been known for his pitchability and overall command of his arsenal, the velocity started ticking up late summer heading into the spring. The added gains on top his ability to pitch could see Lauer’s impact increase significantly as a senior.

LHP Tyson Baker (2025, Winona State) and RHP Lucas Frank (2025, Wisconsin-La Crosse) round off the returning arms. Both saw success as juniors with each player pitching to a 1.24 ERA and 2.44 respectively.

More arms that the Warhawks can turn to behind the core at the top, RHP Ben Groeschel (2025), RHP Liam Hagland (2026), LHP Brady Dopsel (2026), RHP Doug Wagner (2025) and LHP Dawson Young (2026).

Hagland was a recent winner at this past weekend's Milwaukee Preseason ID where he tossed a standout 'pen showing feel for three pitches while filling up the zone. The right-hander has a chance to play a major role on the staff this spring with an arsenal like this.

The lineup returns even more pieces than the mound. Returning are the aforementioned Zaverl and Gordon on top of other performers like Lauer, Frank and Hagland. Each player hit over .300 on the year respectively adding to the depth of this roster.

Second year starter C Grady Cheever (2027) hit the ground running as a freshman, hitting .349 while seeing the lionshare of innings behind the plate. The ceiling for Cheever is high, one of the top defensive catchers in the state while also an impact bat on both sides for the Warhawks.

Rounding off the offense is OF Christian Griffin (2026) and UTL Ian DeMichiel (2025). DeMichiel is a versatile piece that can play quality defense at a number of positions on the field while taking tough at-bats from the left-side offensively.

BOTTOM LINE

A talented roster that returns the majority of their team from last spring, with key pieces just starting to come into their own on the varsity level. The Warhawks are poised to compete for a conference title this spring.
