INF/RHP Cal Moreau (Monona Grove, 2026) has been one of the top prospects in the class since its inception and has continued to elevate his prospect status throughout his prep career.

The 6-foot-3, 186-pound two-way athlete has a high ceiling on either side of the ball. Twitchy athlete in the dirt with soft hands, range, and arm strength that plays from the left-side. The bat plays from the right-side and was one of the top performing bats for Team Wisconsin at the Prep Baseball Future Games. On the mound, Moreau reaches the low-90s with his fastball with feel to locate throughout the zone paired with a big breaking ball that is his go-to secondary offering.

We recently had the opportunity to chat with Moreau about his recruitment process and some other fun topics, found below.

Our Q&A

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Cal: When making my decisions I had 3 things, good location, good engineering program, and a great coaching staff.

P: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

C: I really loved the location of UCF, right outside of Orlando. I wanted to get away from cold and UCF is the perfect spot for that.

P: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

C: In the middle of the summer, Central Florida was at a couple games in the summer. After I played really well in Atlanta that was when things were starting to get real.

P: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

C: I really loved the coaches and the atmosphere at UCF. When I stepped on to that field when they were practicing I knew that this was something great. They all had the same dream there and dedication to make it happen. That is something that I wanted to be apart of.

P: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

C: Notre Dame, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi St.

P: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

C: Dominic Santarelli, he’s such a tooled up and a great guy. It’s hard to throw and play against a guy his caliber. A part that I feel goes unnoticed about him is that he is a great guy, he is one of my favorite people to talk to.

P: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

C: I never thought about it that way I just knew that if I kept playing, practicing, and keeping my head down I knew that great things could happen.

P: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

C: I would say baseball is not easy, there have been many times where I have failed and wanted to give up, but those times when I have succeeded are the reason I still love and play the game.

P: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

C: Hitting my second homerun of the game and walk-off homerun against the 3rd ranked team in the state of Tennessee.

P: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

C: I think our team is going to be really special this year, we have the talent and the experience to lead our way to a state championship.

P: How did the Future Games affect your recruitment process? Did you receive more attention following the event(s)?

C: The future games really gave me a great jump on the recruitment side, there were so many coaches there that I never saw at any of the tournaments I played at. Being able to play down there opened up a whole new book of coaches and recruitment.

P: If you could steal any tool or quality from another player in the state, what would it be and who would it be from?

C: Dominic Santarelli’s effortless power, if anyone could have that they would be one of the best players in the state.

P: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?

C: Eli Bauler from my highschool team, he had the frame to really excel at the next level and he just needs to work on it.
