Our Q&A
PB: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Vincent: I didn’t really have any expectations, I knew that it was going to be a challenging process and that I would have to just play it by ear. I was looking for a program where I could get along with the coaches easily and a program that has a winning history.
P: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
V: Not really, but ultimately it ended up being nice to choose a school that was nearby.
P: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?
V: The recruiting process started to heat up for me after Future Games. Future Games ended up being where majority of the schools that reached out said that they had seen me. Illinois State had seen me a couple of times throughout the summer at different events along with the Future Games.
P: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?
V: I felt that I got along with the coaches really well and I knew that I could continue to grow as a player and in life as well.
P: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
V: Not too many, Illinois State was my only offer and I felt that it was the place that I wanted to go.
P: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?
V: Dominic Santarelli, he can put up a fight in the box and take advantage of any mistake pitch that may be thrown.
P: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
V: I felt that the winter of my freshman year is when I understood where I was talent wise. I had just joined an elite program in GRB STIKS and felt that all of the coaches believed that I had a chance to play in college.
P: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
V: To continue to keep pushing yourself to get better and understand that it will not always be a straight line to success.
P: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
V: My walk off hit in the spring, it was my 3rd game on varsity and from there I felt that myself and my teammates all trusted me the rest of the season and for seasons to come.
P: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?
V: I think that we will have a very talented pitching staff and that we could make a run in the playoffs.
P: How did the Future Games and/or the Wisconsin State Games affect your recruitment process? Did you receive more attention following the event(s)?
V: The Future Games affected my recruiting process the most, I had recieved the most attention through this event due to the amount of schools that attended.
P: If you could steal any tool or quality from another player in the state, what would it be and who would it be from?
V: I would steal Peter Kussow’s curveball.
P: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?
V: Taylor Rampetsreiter, I think that he has grown a lot and has the ability to help our team this spring.
P: Did Prep Baseball assist in your recruiting? Whether it be through a showcase, tournament coverage, tweets, etc? If yes, please explain.
V: Yes, I felt that I had gotten more exposure at the showcases which then lead to me play at the Future Games. Which ended up being what helped me the most.
