Ranking at No. 3 in the most-viewed profiles of 2024 is SS JD Dix (Whitefish Bay, 2024).
Dix has long been one of the top prospects to come out of the Badger State in some time. Athletic frame with upside, switch hitting up the middle defender that makes everything looks easy. Dix operated the same whether is was a workout or gameplay, intense competitor in the batters box, with IQ an apptitude for the game. In the field, Dix plays with smooth and athletic actions while convering ground with ease, looking like a future up-the-middle defender with a chance to stick at shortstop.
After the spring where he was named Prep Baseball Wisconsin Second Team All-State while recovering from offseason surgery, Dix's prolific prep career came to an end when he was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with 35th pick of the 2024 MLB Draft.
JD Dix was one of the most fun dudes to be around at the All-American Game last year – Wisconsin bias aside.

To me, he’s got that perfect balance of having fun on the diamond while being extremely competitive. Meanwhile, he’s an elite athlete, switch-hit shortstop. https://t.co/TW2twPPs27

Scouting Report
Dix was selected with the 35th pick in the MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, making him the highest pick from Wisconsin since OF Jarred Kelenic (Waukesha West, 2018; Louisville signee) was chosen at No. 6 by the New York Mets in 2018. The switch-hitting middle infielder was a participant in the Prep Baseball All-American Game—highlighting a storied career. After battling through an arm injury that limited his time in the field defensively, Dix still made his name heard around the state as a bat.
Wake Forest commit. Dix rounds out our group of infielders on the Second Team, as the No. 1 player in Wisconsin’s 2024 class enjoyed a strong season on the diamond to conclude his storied prep career. The switch-hitter capitalized on strikes when he saw him, but still tallied an impressive 36 walks during the season. From the leadoff spot, Dix swiped 33 bags and once again established himself as a table-setter for the 2023 Division 1 State Champions. The senior got hot toward the end of the year for Whitefish Bay, putting constant pressure on opponents with his patience at the plate and speed on the basepaths. In addition to his production, summarized by an OPS of 1.134, Dix returned to the shortstop position during the Blue Dukes’ playoff run—looking the part as one of the top infielders in the Midwest and beyond. Dix has already shown well at the MLB Draft Combine, as he continues to thrive after competing at the varsity level for multiple seasons donning the Whitefish Bay jersey.
Prep Baseball All-American Game: A switch-hitter with nearly identical actions from both sides of the plate. Dix works out of square, even base with a shoulder height handset and looseness in the wrists. Quick-twitch trigger keeps him on time with an up-the-middle approach that shows present barrel control. Good barrel feel from the left side with present above-average bat speed and pull-side power. Gap power from the right side, but plenty of projection remaining in the 6-foot-2 frame that can lead to future power as a natural right-handed hitter. Could moonlight as an above-average glove at multiple positions but potential to stick at shortstop is real with lateral range and fantastic hands. Great flexibility in the frame with confidence to attack balls. Present plus runner with a 6.48 60 and electric first step that allows to reach top speed quickly. Impressive athlete.
