Top 10 Stories of 2024: No. 6 Year One Success At The Wisconsin State Games

Wisconsin Staff

On Jul. 30 and 31 of this year, Prep Baseball Wisconsin hosted its first Wisconsin State Games at the The Rock in Franklin, WI. This two-day, invite-only event was the first of its kind, consisting of a workout that occurred on the morning of Day One, followed by live gameplay through the remainder of the day and all of Day Two. Over 170 of the top prospects in the state competed in the event and were broken down into 10 teams. The lineups and rosters were assembled by our staff and players played three simulated games against each other, featuring players representing grad classes 2025 through 2027.

Over 80 players who entered the event uncommitted have gone on to make commitments in the four months since the event took place with many more on the way. Of those 80+ commits, 6 have been to Division I schools.

Following the event we also chose a Most Valuable Player Award, along with a Most Valuable Pitcher:

C/OF Jack Gorman (Eau Claire North, 2025) took home the Most Valuable Player award and committed to North Iowa Area CC. Here's what we had to say about his performance.

C/OF Jack Gorman (Eau Claire North, 2025) was one of the standouts in gameplay, hitting two home runs over the Green Monster at the Fenway replica. Gorman has an athletic, repeatable approach with good pull-side power, showing exit velocities up to 97 mph. The setup is narrow with a small leg kick and an occasional toe-tap. The backstop ran an impressive 6.94-second 60-yard dash. Defensively, the actions are solid, showing an arm up to 74 mph from behind the dish.

RHP Tavian Shramek (Blair-Taylor, 2025) Took home the Most Valuable Pitcher award and remains uncommitted heading into the spring. Here's what we had to say about Shramek's performance.

After putting together an elite spring and solid showcase, RHP Tavian Shramek (Blair-Taylor, 2025) put together arguably the best showing on the mound amongst all pitchers during the event—tossing three scoreless innings in the process. The Blair-Taylor product stands at a strong 6-foot-1, 178-pound frame, throwing from a low ¾ slot. Shramek was a standout from the Western Wisconsin Summer ID, touching 88 mph with the FB at The Rock. The right-hander has a mature three-pitch mix and feel for the strike zone, racking up five strikeouts while allowing zero hits in three innings pitched. Shramek dominated with the help of a sharp SL, thrown in any count to keep hitters off of the barrel. The to-be senior spins the pitch between 2,100-2,300 RPM and located it consistently. He also mixed in a deceptive CH, thrown in plus counts—garnering swing and miss, too. It’s a complete arsenal that allowed him to strikeout 151 batters in the spring while only allowing one earned run for the Wildcats in 61 innings pitched. Shramek has elevated his status as one of the top right-handed arms in the 2025 class—competing at a high level against tough competition.

The talent of the event was eye-opening, especially with this being the inaugural year.
