Wisconsin Class of 2028: Director's List
December 19, 2024
Rankings season is officially coming to an end, and to cap it all off we are releasing our first edition of the class of 2028 rankings. The rankings are always tough, but this update is arguably the toughest based on the age and growth that all of the prospects in the state still have yet to do.
The age concerns on top of the overall look our staff has of the class, the Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff opted to release a "Director's List" featuring 25+ freshman in the Badger State that are names to know heading into the spring.
13 of these players represented Team Wisconsin down in Georgia for the Junior Future Games, which was one of the most successful teams Wisconsin has brought down in recent memory. Below we dive into the prospects that comprised the roster.
TEAM WISCONSIN
Two catchers stood out across the time down in Georgia, C Thomas Check (La Crosse Logan, 2028), C Braedon Paczocha (Mukwonago, 2028) seeing extended time behind the plate during our time down at LakePoint.
Check is an athletic left-handed hitting catcher with advanced catch-and-throw abilities as a freshman. At the plate, Check swings a strong bat, the ball jumps off the barrel when he connects flashing ability to grow into future power production.
Paczocha is a right-handed hitting catcher that could be one of the more advanced defensive catchers Team Wisconsin has brought down in recent years. Recent rosters have included some of the state's top catching talents such as Maddox Lessard in 2022 and Jack Spielmann and Grady Cheever in 2023. At the plate, Paczocha swings an easy and repeatable barrel with the ability to find the barrel in game.
The Badger State had a number of intriguing bats that took quality at-bats the entire weekend adding to a deep lineup. INF/RHP Evan Harbort (Cambridge, 2028), INF/OF Max Egan (Whitefish Bay, 2028), INF/RHP Eli Hart (Bay Port, 2028), INF/RHP Benjamin Smet Cooper (Westosha Central, 2028), INF Kallen Magli (DeForest, 2028), OF Bryson Hoeffler (Muskego, 2028), were all tough outs no matter their spot in the order.
Hart is an athletic middle of the diamond defender with a smooth right-handed swing and feel for the barrel. Projectable frame with some strength already present with clear room for more physical development.
These athletic two-ways made their presence felt on both sides of the ball, INF/RHP Cooper Hall (Cedarburg, 2028), INF/RHP Maddex Welzein (West Bend West, 2028), OF/LHP Braxton Theide (Jefferson, 2028), INF/RHP Max Webb (Port Washington, 2028), UTL/RHP Andrew Wiesner (Sevastopol, 2028). Each player would find a unique way to contribute while maximizing their skillset. Hall and Welzein were standouts on defense while tossing high-leverage innings on the mound, all the while being reliable bats. Theide and Wiesner were go-to arms out of the ‘pen, Theide’s arm strength would translate to defense as a strong armed right-fielder. Wiesner tossed the most innings while taking tough at-bats and being a versatile defender.
Webb showed intrigue as a two-way however the performance on the mound stood out, strike thrower with a polished two pitch mix and an easy delivery.
