Throughout the West Virginia high school baseball regular season we will be posting a Power 5 in each classification. Updates will be made for Class AAA on Mondays, AA on Tuesdays and A on Wednesdays. Check back frequently at PBR West Virginia to follow team and individual results from the previous week. Today we take a a look at our week 4 A top 5.

St. Joseph Central

PBR Ranked Players:

Summary:

St. Joseph Central was 1-1 on the week beating previous #1 Charleston Catholic 5-4 and losing to #3 Williamstown 8-4. The win over Charleston Catholic bumps them to #1, although Williamstown may not agree. Top offensive performers included John Piaskowski (4-for-7, 3 R, 1 RBI), Lenny Washington (5-for-8, 3 R, 2 RBI) and Hunter Eplin (4-for-7, 3 RBI).

Charleston Catholic

PBR Ranked Players:

1. Brandon Combs, 3B/RHP, #9 PBR West Virginia Class of 2018 Rankings, Transylvania recruit

Summary:

Charleston Catholic drops to #2 after losing to St. Joseph Central. The Irish are now 12-4 on the season. Standout performers were Marshall Pile (11-for-17, 5 R, 8 RBI), Timothy Kawash ( 8-for-14, 8 R, 5 RBI) and Brandon Combs who homered twice and picked up a win over Valley Fayette with a pitching line of (6 IP, 2 ER, 12 SO).

WILLIAMSTOWN                            

PBR Ranked Players:

1. Mason Adkins, 2B/OF, #12 PBR West Virginia Class of 2018 Rankings, Western Carolina recruit

Summary:

Williamstown remains at #3 in a difficult call. A case could be made for the Yellowjackets to be higher. Their overall record now sits at 15-2-1. Individual statistics were not available.

WHEELING CENTRAL

PBR Ranked Players:

1. Chris Furka, 3B/SS, #44 PBR West Virginia Class of 2018 Rankings, Salem International recruit

2. Bryan Courts, SS/C, #50 PBR West Virginia Class of 2018 Rankings, Wheeling Jesuit recruit

3. Sonny Peluchette, 2B/SS, #14 PBR West Virginia Class of 2020 Rankings 

Summary:

Wheeling Central remains at #4 with a 9-1 overall ledger. Like Williamstown they could make a legitmate argument to be slotted higher.

MOOREFIELD

PBR Ranked Players:

1. None

Summary:

Moorefield went undefeated on the week to move their overall mark to 10-3. Offensive production was distributed up and down the order. Derek Hoyt went six innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out eight in a win over Tucker County.
