Game of the Day: Bridgeport at Ripley

With less that a week until regional play opens up for 24 teams hoping to advance to Charleston, two teams in the most recent PBR Elite Eight rankings got together for a tuneup. Bridgeport, ranked No. 1 in Class AA traveled to Ripley, ranked No. 4 in Class AAA. While both teams substituted freely and used a total of eight pitchers, the opportunity to get in some work against a quality opponent should benefit them as they begin regional action next week.

Bridgeport scored five times in the 4th inning to break open a 2-1 game and cruised to an 8-3 win. The Indians were led offensively by Dante Bonamico (2-for-4, 2 runs, HR) and Elijah Drummond (2-for-2, 2B, 2 RBI). Anthony Jarvis and Cody Pittenger each hit a home run for Ripley accounting for all three RBI.

The Indians moved to 32-3 on the season with the win. Ripley fell to 25-7 with the loss. Bridgeport will welcome Liberty Harrison on May 26 to begin Regional play while Ripley hosts South Charleston on May 25 in semifinal action.

The Vikings last won a Class AAA state title in 2004. Bridgeport is looking to repeat as the Class AA state champion after their run to the title in 2014.
