Game of the Day: Jefferson at Hedgesville

The Jefferson Cougars resiliency was on display as they put together a huge comeback late to defeat the Hedgesville Eagles. Jefferson was able to get on the board first thanks to Shippensburg recruit Austin Bulman's double and an Alex Tennant single. The 1-0 lead was short lived.  Two walks combined with singles by Andrew Berry and Jacob Martin put the Eagles on top 2-1 after one.

James (Austin) BulmanAustin CrossThe Eagles extended the lead to 4-1 in the second.  They did so with four hits, two of which were for extra bases.  Dylan Sexton singled as did Hunter Coe. Chase Delauster doubled in two runs while Brady Weaver also picked up an RBI on a double.

With the Cougars offense in check the Eagles continued to add on through the fifth.  Jacob Martin led off the third with a solo home run.  A double by Dylan Sexton followed by an Chase Delauster RBI single made the score 6-1 after five.

With the game slipping away Jefferson proved that their winning tradition is not lost on the present group of players.  The Cougars put together four hits in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 6-4.  Alex Tennant, Cole Walker and David Dingess all singled with Dingess' single driving in a run.  The big blow of the inning was a two run double by Dalton Dodson.

The stage was set in the seventh for Jefferson to finish off the comeback it had started in the sixth. However, it looked pretty unlikely when Hedgesville was able to get the first two outs of the inning without a Jefferson score.  A two out single by Radford recuit Austin Cross (pictured left) drove in Bulman (pictured right) who had singled as well to make the score 6-5. Unfortunately at that point the baseball gods were not with Hedgesville.  Wildness on the mound and a couple of fielding miscues allowed the Cougars to plate two additional runs without a hit for the 7-6 final.

Multihit games included for Jefferson: Bulman (2-4, 2 R and Tennant 2-4, 1 R) and for Hedgesville: Delauster (3-3, 1 R, 2 RBI), Berry (2-4, 1 R), Martin (2-4, 1 R, 3 RBI) and Sexton 2-3, 2 R.

Brady Hamiltom was the winning pitcher as he threw two innings in relief not allowing a hit or run and striking out one.
