Top Right-Handed Pitching Performances of the Fall

By Greg Williams

With the completion of the Fall College Prospect Program the outdoor portion of the Prep Baseball Report event schedule came to a close in September. With the Elite Prospect Showcase on November 7 set to kick off the indoor portion of the schedule we now look back on some of the top performances of the fall. Today we take a look at the top right-handed pitching performances at a fall PBR event.

2017 RHP/3B Joe Preciado (Council Rock North, PA)

Joe PreciadoJoe Preciado sat 77-79 from a low 3/4 arm slot touching 81 mph at the Elite Prospect Showcase in November of 2014. Twenty pounds heavier and from a higher arm slot, Preciado turned in the top pitching performance of the fall during his bullpen session at the Unsigned Senior Showcase earlier this month.

The junior was among a handful of underclassmen to participate in the event. Now standing 6-foot and weighting 200-pounds, the righty showcased a significant velocity spike in the past year. Preciado sat 84-85 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some arm-side run to his fastball. He displayed a long arm action and high knee stack leading to deception in his delivery. Preciado also showcased a 72 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a changeup at 79 mph. His controlled, repeatable mechanics and a physical frame should lead to continued velocity gains.

2018 SS/RHP Nick Leonard (Brooke, WV)

Nick Leonard

Nick Leonard is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound primary middle infielder that impressed on the mound at the Western PA Fall Review. He sat 80-82 while topping at 83 mph with above average tilt to his fastball. Leonard stays on top of his fastball well and showed the ability to cut it at times. The sophomore's 70 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation is a solid secondary offering. Leonard worked two scoreless innings allowing one hit while striking out four.

The two-way prospect flashed a strong lower half and direct swing path that lead to a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 with a double in game one while barreling the ball in all but one at bat on the day. Leonard displayed athletic actions defensively with the ability to make throws from multiple arm angles.
