Unsigned Senior Spotlight: OF Raeshawn Breckenridge

Raeshawn BreckenridgeRaeshawn Breckenridge has been a Special Mention (2012) and 2nd Team (2013) Class A All-State selection the past two seasons at defensive back for the Valley Fayette Greyhounds. The athletic lefty also quarterbacked Valley to an undefeated regular season this fall. However, it is on the baseball diamond that Breckenridge is most likely to draw the attention of college scouts.

The 6-foot, 175-pound outfielder, who played his first two high school seasons at George Washington HS, had a breakout spring in 2013. He put up monster offensive numbers and was a Class A Honorable Mention selection following a season that saw the Greyhounds get to the state semi-finals. Along the way Breckenridge hit .417 with some prolific power numbers. The left-handed hitter had 43 hits on the campaign with 25 of them going for extra bases (13 doubles, 4 triples, 8 home runs). Breckenridge drove in 43 runs and swiped 22 bases in 24 attempts.

Unfortunately for Breckenridge, and his Greyhound teammates, they came up one win shy of an appearance in last year's Class A state title game. Valley lost 6-5 in a semi-final match-up with eventual state champion Charleston Catholic. Breckenridge, ranked No. 34 in the WV Class of 2014, drove in a run with a single in the 7th inning of that game to pull the Greyhounds within two runs in their final at bat. He later scored, but the potential game tying run was cut down at the plate to end the game.

According to head coach Joe Craffey, "I think Raeshawn would be a steal for a college coach. He is a good contact hitter that can also hit for power. Raeshawn is a natural outfielder that gets a tremendous jump on the ball and is a very savvy base runner."
