West Virginia Preseason All-State: Outfielders

The West Virginia Preseason All-State took place on February 9th at Pro Performance RX giving our staff a final look this winter at some of the top prospects in West Virginia. In the coming days, we will look in-depth at each participant with a series of articles. Today we take a look at the outfielders in attendance. Players listed in Alphabetical order by last name.

Will Ellis, OF, George Washington HS, 2021

6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed balance throughout with a line drive, middle of the field approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 7.00 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball routinely in the outfield with accurate 82 mph arm strength to home plate.

 

Hall, OF, Oak Hill HS, 2022

5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short lift-and-replace stride. Displayed quick hand and a direct swing path with solid lower half actions. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 7.07 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and athletic actions defensively while routinely playing through the baseball with 79 mph arm strength from the outfield.

Grant Hussey, OF/1B, Parkersburg South HS, 2021

6-foot-3, 225-pound left-handed hitter continued to show why he is currently ranked as the top prospect in West Virginia's 2021 class. The physical junior starts from an open stance and initiates his swing from a high hands load with a controlled leg-hang stride. Displayed advanced rhythm and balance with solid lower half actions while routinely making loud contact during his round of batting practice. Registered an event best bat exit velocity of 102 mph and ran an impressive 6.87 60-yard dash. The primary first baseman worked out in the outfield on this date showcasing athletic actions with active feet and 88 mph arm strength to home plate.

Mason Lafollette, OF/RHP, Jefferson HS, 2021

6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. A deep load leads to an arm bar and some barrel drag in the swing. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 7.70 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball routinely in the outfield with straight line carry on throws of 78 mph to home plate. The righty sat 74-76 on the mound out of a high 3/4 arm slot beginning with a side rocker step. Also showcased a curveball at 68-70 with 11/5 rotation and a straight changeup at 72-73.

Clay Maholic, OF, University HS, 2020

6-foot, 195-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short leg-hang stride. Stays behind the baseball well and uses his lower half efficiently creating above average barrel whip. Registered a bat exit velocity of 89 mph and ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball routinely in the outfield and showcased straight line carry of 83 mph on throws to home plate. Uncommitted prospect should draw plenty of eyes this spring as he plays his senior year of high school baseball.

Jordan Mize, OF/RHP, Greenbrier East HS, 2021

6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open, wide stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased some lower half glide with a swing that is dominated by his upper half while displaying a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 7.01 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball routinely in the outfield with straight line carry on throws of 77 mph to home plate. The righty sat 74-75 off the mound out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Delivery is simple and repeatable. Also showed a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 60-61 and a changeup at 65-67.

 Moore, OF/RHP, Hurricane HS, 2022

5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square, crouched stance and initiates his swing with a hard move to his front side. Displayed some feel for the barrel and creates some backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 87 mph and ran a 7.31 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball consistently in the outfield with solid carry on throws of 81 mph to home plate. The righty sat 78-79 off the mound from a high 3/4 arm slot. Delivery is balanced and repeatable with a loose, quick arm swing. Also showed a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 65-66 and a straight changeup at 69-70.

 Reep, OF, Bridgeport HS, 2020

5-foot-10, 185-pound uncommitted senior right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a controlled lift-and-replace stride. Displayed above average balance and rhythm with a solid feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 92 mph and ran a 6.96 60-yard dash. Showcased athletic defensive actions while routinely playing through the baseball with straight line carry on throws of 84 mph to home plate.

William Ricketts, OF/LHP, Jefferson HS, 2021

5-foot-10, 220-pound primary pitcher sat 70-71 from a low 3/4 arm slot. Works quickly with a pronounced side rocker step to begin. Also displayed a slider with sweeping action at 58-61 and a changeup at 62-64. The left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to begin. Showcased an uphill path to the ball with some length to his swing. Registered a bat exit velocity of 74 mph and ran a 7.53 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball routinely in the outfield with 72 mph arm strength to home plate.

Carter Williams, OF/RHP, Huntington HS, 2021

6-foot, 150-pound primary pitcher sat 75-77 from a high 3/4 arm slot with hip coil to a deliberate delivery. Also displayed a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 62-64 and a changeup at 63-64. The right-handed hitter starts from a narrow, square stance and initiates his swing with an aggressive move to his front foot. Displayed a direct swing path and a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 73 mph and ran a 7.31 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball routinely in the outfield with 77 mph arm strength to home plate.
