Wyoming Prospect ID Showcase Middle Infield Analysis

The Prep Baseball Report’s Wyoming Prospect ID Showcase was held in Cheyenne Wyoming. 44 prospects completed a pro-style workout for the PBR Colorado's Scouting Staff, several of whom were new to the staff. There were some impressive numbers that came out of the event on this weekend.

Over the next week we will break down the event by position.  Continuing our look at the Wyoming Prospect ID is the middle infield position.

Middle Infield Analysis:

Keegan Brown, SS/RHP, Cody High School (2018)
A 6-foot-0, 160-pound right hand hitting middle infielder who ran a 7.5 60.  At the plate he stands tall with a long stride and load of his hands back.  Swing path us uphill with good lower leg drive on the swing.  Exit velocity was 86 MPH.  In the field he shows smooth actions and a quick release.  Delivers from a high ¾ arm slot with a double tap of the glove when throwing.  Arm velocity was 74 MPH with accuracy.

Tate Carson, SS/RHP, Southeast High School (2020)
A 5-foot-8, 152-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP who ran an 8.10 60.  At the plate he stands balanced with a short stride on the pitch.  Weight gets stuck on his backside and swing path is uphill.  Exit velocity was 79 MPH.  In the field he shows good glove action and will benefit from loosening up as he fields.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a 62 MPH arm velocity.  On the mound he stays tall through his motion and throws off a stiff front side.  Arm slot is high ¾ and he showcased a 62 MPH fastball along with a 58 MPH curve and a 60 MPH change.

Colby Deaville, SS/2B, Legacy High School (2017)
A 6-foot-1, 155-pound right hand hitting middle infielder who ran a 7.30 60.  At the plate he is balanced and slightly open.  High leg kick loads his weight on his back side before firing through the zone.  Hands are quick through the hitting zone with a 79 MPH exit velocity.  Shows good athleticism in the field and range right and left.  Delivers from a high ¾ arm slot at 72 MPH.  Arm was accurate on the run throwing across the field. 

Dru Devera, SS/OF, Broomfield High School (2019)
A 5-foot-10, 130-pound right hand hitting SS/OF who ran a 7.10 60.  At the plate he is balanced and slightly open.  Strides early to come square on the pitch.  Lower half is quick through the zone and hands have good extension at contact.  Exit velocity was 76 MPH.  In the field he uses is speed to cut down the angle on balls left and right.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with accuracy.  Arm velocity was 72 MPH. 

Hunter Hicks, SS/2B, Evanston High School (2017)
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound left hand hitting middle infielder who ran an 8.10 60.  At the plate he is balanced and narrow at set up.  A long stride gets his weight coming forward.  He hits off a firm front side with an uphill swing path.  Exit velocity was 78 MPH.  In the field he showed solid fundamentals and soft hands.  He throws from over the top and is accurate to the bag.  Arm was measured at 70 MPH. 

Dylan Johnson, 2B/SS, Natrona County High School (2019)
A 5-foot-5, 130-pound right hand hitting middle infielder who ran a 7.40 60.  Simple set up at the plate, balanced with a short stride for timing.  Hands and weight sweep through the zone with a 72 MPH exit velocity.  In the field he shows good athletic actions and soft hands when fielding ground balls.  He throws from a high ¾ arm slot and is accurate on the run.  Arm velocity was 68 MPH.  

Connor Lewis, 2B/SS, Glenrock High School (2017)
A 5-foot-8, 135-pound right hand hitting middle infielder who ran a 7.80 60.  At the plate he is tall and balanced.  Uses a high leg kick to load on his back side.  Hits off a firm front side with an uphill swing path.  Exit velocity was 69 MPH.  In the field he showed good feet on balls up the middle.  He gets to a high ¾ release quickly and delivered an accurate ball across the field.  Arm velocity was 63 MPH.    

Chase Lovercheck, SS/OF, Southeast High School (2018)
A 6-foot-0, 155-pound right hand hitting SS/OF who ran a 7.10 60.  At the plate he is balanced and slightly crouched.  Uses a short stride and slow load of the hands on the pitch.  Swing path is slightly uphill with good extension out front on the swing.  Exit velocity was 81 MPH.  In the field he uses long legs to cover ground.  Athletic actions get him in good throwing position.  He delivers from a high ¾ arm slot and arm velocity was 84 MPH.  

Andres Robles, SS/2B, Douglas High School (2019)
A 5-foot-9, 130-pound right hand hitting middle infielder who ran an 8.10 60.  At the plate he is balanced, uses a high leg kick to get his weight moving.  He gets stuck on his backside during the swing.  Exit velocity was 66 MPH.  In the field he has good fundamentals and will benefit from time and growth.  He showcased a 61 MPH arm with accuracy to the bag. 

Jordan Wasia, SS/2B, Cody High School (2018)
A 6-foot-0, 162-pound right hand hitting middle infielder who ran a 7.30 60.  At the plate he stands balanced with a quick high leg lift and load back on the pitch.  Hands and weight sweep through the zone.  Swing will be more fluid when he gets his front foot down earlier.  During the live round he showed good bat control to all fields.  Exit velocity was 79 MPH.  In the field he showed good ability to cover ground and stay in a good throwing position.  He delivered an accurate ball on the run and arm velocity was 76 MPH.  

Keaton Westhoff, SS/RHP, Kelly Walsh High School (2018)
A 6-foot-0, 145-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.40 60.  At the plate he stands tall and balanced, he uses a short stride to get his weight coming forward on the swing.  Swing path is level with good extension at contact.  Exit velocity was 74 MPH.  In the field he showed good fundamentals on ground balls and delivers from a high ¾ arm slot.  Ball was accurate across the diamond and arm velocity 71 MPH.  On the mound he uses a high leg kick to get past balanced and then falls to the plate.  He lands in-line on his delivery and throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball was 74 MPH with good command away.  He added a 67 MPH curve with sweeping break and finished his showcase with a 71 MPH splitter that worked well down in the zone. 

Ethan Wheeler, 2B/OF, Resurrection Christian High School (2019)
A 5-foot-7, 125-pound right hand hitting 2B/OF who ran a 7.80 60.  At the plate he starts balanced with a lift and place leg kick for timing.  Hips fire through the zone and he showed good extension at contact.  Exit velocity was 68 MPH.  In the field he showed soft hands and a quick release.  He throws well on the run.  Delivery was from a high ¾ slot and arm velocity was 64 MPH.
