2012 - C Deon Stafford Jr. (St. Joseph's)

2017 Preseason 3rd Team All-American

• Saint Joseph’s catcher Deon Stafford was named a 2015 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by the staff at Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Stafford played in 47 games for the Hawks, leading the squad with a .341 batting average and 19 doubles.  He finished his first season on Hawk Hill in the top 13 in the Atlantic 10 in average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage, while tying for third in the league in doubles.  Stafford excelled behind the plate as well, posting a .995 fielding percentage (second among all fielders with as many chances) and throwing out 11 runners attempting to steal.

A native of Marysville, Pennsylvania, Stafford was named to both the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team and the All-Rookie Team, and pulled in All-Big 5 and Big 5 Rookie of the Year honors as well.

Stafford built on his freshman season by being named the Atlantic 10 Conference baseball Player of the Year for 2016 as a sophomore. He hit .388 overall and .421 in A-10 games, collecting 43 RBI in all games, including 25 in conference play. The sophomore led the league in home runs (17), batting average, runs (52), on-base and slugging percentage. Stafford was the only player in Division I to have two games where he hit three-home runs. Named a National Player of the Week, he was a three-time A-10 Player of the Week and was a Johnny Bench Award semifinalist.

2012 - 1B/DH/RHP Jamie Switalski (UMBC)

Jamie Switalski• Switalski had a breakout rookie campaign for the Retrievers, playing in 40 games making 39 starts... A two way player, he saw time as a designated hitter, as well as a pitcher and first baseman... Hit .307 with 39 hits, including eight doubles and three home runs... Scored 20 runs while driving in 17... Drew 23 walks for an on base percentage of .429... Was 2-2 on the base paths and did not commit an error all season... On the mound, he went 3-0 in eight appearances, finishing with a 2.20 ERA... Had one save in 16.1 innings pitched... Gave up four runs, all earned, with eight strikeouts... His biggest game came in a 17-1 rout of Albany back on April 9... He went 3-4 with one double and one home run, driving in five RBI... On the hill, he threw 3.1 innings of relief in a win against Binghamton, striking out three... Named to the America East All-Conference First Team and All-Rookie Team... Named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.

Switalski built on the success of his freshman season by hitting .295 as a sophomore with 40 RBI and 26 runs scored.

  • Drafted by the Anaheim Angels in the 30th round of the 3018 MLB Draft.
  • Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 35th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, but chose to forgo the draft to return to ASU
  • Had a breakout sophomore campaign, holding opponents scoreless in 11 out of his 19 appearances totaling a 3.92 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 39 innings
  • Pitched 4.2 nearly perfect innings against UNLV, keeping the Rebels completely off the base paths with the exception of one walk while striking out six to notch the win in an eventual 5-4 victory (3/28)
  • Played a pivotal role in the Devils' 9-6 comeback win over Stanford, providing 7.2 innings of relief while holding the Cardinal to one earned run with four strikeouts (5/7)
  • Compiled a 3-2 record while also leading the team in saves (four)
  • Held opposing hitters to a .294 batting average and gave up just one home run all season
  • Had a 2.67 ERA in his final 14 appearances with 26 strikeouts in 30.1 innings pitched while picking up three wins and a team-best four saves in the process
  • Kept the Cougars off the board in 3.1 innings of relief, limiting Washington State to just two hits with four strikeouts to notch his second save of the season (4/13)

* LHP Brendan Cellucci (12th Round, Red Sox)

Brendan Cellucci2015 - LHP Brendan Cellucci (Tulane)

  • Cellucci was the first Tulane player to be picked on Wednesday, going in the 12th round to the Boston Red Sox at pick 377. The lefty appeared in 27 games for Tulane in 2019, leading the team in saves with three in 42 innings pitched. He was second among relievers with 46 strikeouts, notching a pair of wins on the mound.
