Warkentin

Warkentin had one of the best showings among the arms in Kamloops and the right-hander was locked in a pitchers dual with ABC LHP Felix Morin. The Washington commit sat 87-89 T90 with the fastball and worked with a slider at 76-78. He consistently worked ahead in counts using both pitches and racked up the swings and misses throughout his 5+ innings. Also mixed a changeup at 80 mph, although rare. Despite taking the loss, it was an impressive outing from the draft eligible arm. 

Warkentin is a 6-foot-2, 215 pounds RHP/OF who plays for the Okotoks Dawgs. Played for the North Delta Blue Jays last season but left BC to explore opportunities with the Dawgs Academy in Alberta. An impressive 2021 grad on the mound and at the plate. Warkentin sits consistently 86-87 mph with his fastball. Smooth delivery, minimal arm swing, which creates some deception. Sound mechanics with a good feel for the breaking ball, which has a sharp break. Changeup is a developing pitch in the upper 70s, but with more feeling, it could become a weapon to add to his regiment. At the plate, Warkentin has decent bat speed in an effortless swing. Hands stay stationary with a small leg lift as he loads. Boston put up respectable numbers on the bump and at the dish last season with the Blue Jays. It will be interesting to see how he fares with Okotoks as Warkentin continues to get stronger and develop his game. Has the potential to be a productive two-way guy at the college level.
