6/30/20

5-foot-11, 185-pound sturdy frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed his power ability with an exit velocity of 91 mph. Started in a balanced stance with a smooth load, then used a small leg kick to initiate his swing. Bat speed was some, and he had good extension on his finish. He found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Pull side approach. While catching, had quick feet and transfers on his throw downs, recording a 1.94-2.15 pop time, his best recorded throw to second was clocked at 77 mph; showed quick feet, a natural exchange and consistent hands. Quiet setup with some flexibility. Had consistent accuracy to the base with a quick arm action. Clocked a 60 time of 7.19 at the event.

1/18/20

Physical catcher that has shown nice offensive improvement. Starts slightly open and does a nice job of creating rhythm in the approach and using the lower half. There is some strength in the hands and he does a nice job of keeping the barrel through the hitting zone. The swing plane has some tilt and he showed a mostly middle to pull side approach. Solid skills behind the plate and is a very quiet receiver and did a nice job of working underneath the borderline strike down in the zone. Showed nice arm strength at 75 mph and a quick transfer with pop times in the 2.0’s. Nice looking 2022 catcher.

9/29/19

Another good looking ‘22 catcher in the state that we have seen several times but this was his most impressive showing. Does a nice job using his strong lower half in his swing as he starts from an open stance. Nice load of the hands to the launch position and showed a much better gap to gap approach at this event. Has some present strength now and some tilt in his bat path. The offensive approach has improved. Very solid defensively and is a very nice catch and throw backstop.  Athletic movements behind the plate and does a nice job extending the plate. Shows very nice block and recovery skills on balls in the dirt. Love the demeanor as he simply just goes about his business on the field.

9/08/19

Another impressive ‘22 catching prospect that shows well each time we see him. Arm strength behind the plate is legit and throws were on the bag. Moved very well laterally on balls to his left and right and showed quick recovery on blocked balls. Nice flexibility in the hips and handled pitchers very well in the game. The barrel was loud during BP and he really created backspin off the bat causing the ball to really take off, showing gap to gap power. The swing has some tilt in it and he did a nice job using his lower half. Nice make up on this catcher.

6/25/19

Impressive day for this ‘22 C/3B at the event. Offensively, Stricklin starts with an even stance and a quiet load but generates some juice with his bat speed. Consistent load contact to all fields. Really stays inside the baseball and incorporates his lower half really well into his swing. Defensively, the ‘22 C showed pop times that ranged from 2.07-2.14 to go along with a 73 mph C velo. These numbers will continue to progress as he gets quicker and the arm gets stronger.

6/12/19

Impressive young catcher that showed a solid set up at the plate with an even stance and a short toe tap approach with slight tilt in the bat path. Showed a pull side approach with strength in the hands.Strong lower half in the swing. Defensively he turned in steady pop times in the 2.0’s with big time accuracy (best of the day). Simple, athletic actions with nice carry on the throws and flexible hips. Nice block and recovery skills on balls in the dirt.
