6-foot, 200-pound physical frame. During batting practice, Pfeiffer showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 91 mph. Began in a balanced stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride before his swing. Had uphill swing plane, and his bat speed was quick. Had loud contact and found multiple barrels. Line drive approach. While catching, consistently had pop times of 2.04-2.09, his best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 75 mph; showed a quick exchange, consistent feet and soft hands. Showcases some flexibility. Had a quick arm action with decent accuracy to the base. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.67. On the mound, throws from a ¾ angle. Used easy effort in his delivery. a clean finish. Sat with his fastball at 81-82 mph and topped out at 83 mph; has running action and in the zone control. Had a sharp curveball (72-74) that showed in the zone control. His changeup (77-78) showed fading action and around the zone command.
On the mound, this ‘22 grad showed a nice arm action from a high ¾ delivery. Worked downhill with the FB that was 77-78 mph and bumped 79 mph several times. The FB was down in the zone and showed some cut. The breaking ball showed really nice tight spin and can be a swing and miss pitch at 65-66 mph. Mechanics are clean. Sightly open simple lower half at the plate and did a nice job being on time with the barrel. The approach is definite gap to gap with slight tilt in the swing plane. Actions behind the plate are clean and did a nice job handing pitchers in the game, as well as extending the plate for the pitchers he caught. Interesting ‘22 C that was 2.01- 2.06 to the 2B bag.
On the mound the mechanics were solid and the delivery looked easy showing nice ASR on a FB that was up to 80. The change up showed deception with tumble into RH hitters and the breaking ball showed late hard bite with a lot of spin. Offensively, he showed a nice setup with the hands and kept the barrel through the zone with a slightly tilted swing path showing some juice in the pull side gap. Good low set up behind the plate which allowed him to do a nice job on balls down in the zone in presentation. Arm strength is nice with nice footwork on throws to 2B. Another young C to follow.
