Very consistent player that has really added some strength to couple with solid skills. Made it look easy behind the plate and did a superb job of receiving quietly and sticking pitches. Another catcher that gave a nice, low target and was smooth moving behind the plate with nice flexibility in the hips. The catch and throw skills have continued to improve and he was 2.04- 2.06 pop times on the day. At the plate, he shows a small toe tap approach and an inside out approach, resulting in a mostly line drive approach middle to oppo. The hands are set fairly high in the stance and he does a nice job getting his top hand through contact.
‘21 C that has added some strength and size to his frame since we saw him last. Showed very solid catch and throw skills behind the plate and was 1.910 2.03 to the bag at 2B. Showed nice flexibility in the hips and a quick transfer behind the plate. Slightly open toe tap approach at the plate with a flat barrel path through the zone. Did a nice job keeping the barrel through the zone with some pop to the pull side gap. Had two hits in game play, including a 2B.
Offensively, Roberson has an even stance that displayed some pull side juice in his BP round. Utilizes a toe-tap to load and has a level swing path. The ‘21 grad had a single in the game he played in. Behind the plate, the catch and throw skills are there. Posted the top pop time at 1.95 while ranging from 1.95-2.18 to go along with a 73 mph C velo. At 6’0” 160 lbs, Roberson has the chance to become a physical C if he continues to progress and put on more weight.
1.20.19- Young catching prospect with solid fundamentals. Very quiet behind the plate and does a nice job of swaying his upper body on pitches borderline each way. Did a nice job receiving the pitch down in the zone and a quick transfer on throws to 2B. (low of 2.1 pop). That number will go down as he continues to grow and mature physically. Starts with a square stance at the plate and did a nice job of getting his hands back in rhythm. A simple, compact approach which resulted in consistent line drives. A tools 2021 to keep an eye on.
