Positional Profile: SS/2B Uncommitted 2023 that seems to progress each time we see him.
Body: 6-0, 160-pounds. Leaner frame with evenly distributed strength.
Hit: RHH. Athletic/upright stance, slightly open, smooth load into a short stride. Short path to the ball with extension after contact, fluid rhythm with a whole field approach, produces line-drives.
Power: 88.9 max exit velocity, averaged 82.8 mph. 281’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 86 mph. High 3/4 slot, accurate throws with some carry.
Defense: Soft hands with a clean transfer, ability to handle the short-hop. Nice lateral range.
Run: 7.05 runner in the 60.
5-foot-11, 160-pound athletic frame. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 93 mph. Setup consists of a balanced wide stance and a quick stride. Bat speed is efficient and exhibits a level swing plane. Found multiple barrels in his round. Pull side approach. While in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 80 mph; had twitchy hands, and athletic smooth footwork. Movements laterally were athletic. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.8.
2B Paxton Ponder (2023) is an athletic middle infielder that continues to produce at a high level in both facets of the game. Defensively, Ponder shows a ton of lateral range to both sides with plenty of arm strength to make the play behind the bag at 2B. One particular play saw the sophomore range deep to his glove side where he laid out, fielding the ball and finishing the play on a throw from his knees. Ponder has a middle to opposite field approach with a fluid, clean bat path and plenty of athleticism. The sophomore has some intriguing power off the barrel as he collected two doubles on Saturday. A young prospect that continues to trend upward.
