1/27/19 – 5’11 165-pound frame that will add strength quickly. The New Mexico commit worked his fastball up to 89 with run, sitting mostly 87-88 in his inning of work. Throws across his body, making it a tough angle for right handed hitters. If direction can to be in line, it will help his lower half be more engaged, likely seeing a velo jump. Shows feel for three pitches, including his breaking ball with late action at 67-60 MPH and fading change at 78-79. Avila is intriguing at the plate, shows all of the tools and having an impressive BP, with multiple line drives that seemed to have well above average carry. If he can carry that into games, he will have a major impact at the next level, with the ability to hit for average and power. Exit velo was at 88 MPH

8/2/18 - Started the game, running his fastball up to 89 mph with significant hand speed. He worked up in the zone some and showed significantly looser rotation on the curveball than we've seen in previous looks, but threw two scoreless innings and is certainly a D1 arm. Davila also smoked a line drive for an RBI single, but is likely an arm at the next level.

6/5/18 - 5-foot-10, 160-pound RHP/IF Daniel Davila missed the entire spring due to AIA transfer rules, but showed very little rust on the mound where he sat 85-87 mph from a lower ¾ slot. Davila’s athleticism shines on the mound where he is able to generate quick arm speed using a compact delivery. Displayed the ability to spin a tight, low 70’s slurve for strikes. Change up was firm thrown at 77 mph with fastball arm speed. Davila also impressed as a position player. Has the hands, feet, and arm to play middle infield. Shows the ability to keep his feet moving and play through the ball. 81 mph infield velocity. At the plate, Davila starts with a tall balanced set up before shifting his weight over his back leg. Uses a leg kick trigger to get his center of mass moving forward into the swing. Low hand set up aids in a linear bat path. Showed some present bat speed and will only continue to improve as he matures physically; 86 mph exit velocity. 7.34 60 yard dash.

1/28/18 - Davila’s clean actions on the infield with smooth, confident hands should allow him to continue a consistent progression as his frame continues to mature. Standing 5-foot-10, 160-pounds with more to come, Davila showcased fluid actions at shortstop combined with a loose arm with the ability to throw from all angles. At the plate, the right-hander’s hands work fluently down and back with a knee-knock leg hang that allows him to build some momentum going forward. He has a flat path through the zone with a loose finish, and was relaxed at the plate throughout. Davila will be greatly aided by more strength in the future which should provide even more bat speed. On the mound, he worked 83-85 with a medium-sized arm swing, and quick hand speed out front. Delivering out of a ¾ slot, Davila pounds the zone with his fastball, and demonstrates advanced feel for an 11/5 curveball at 67-69 along with a changeup at 74-75. Because of his overall athleticism, Davila has a chance to make a big jump as he continues to grow, and coaches will want to be locked in to see how he progresses in the spring/summer.
