3/15/19 at Palma - Fresno State Commit. Kachel started at SS and showed a loose easy arm from a mid-slot during pre-game that immediately caught my attention. He’s a long, medium frame with a high waist and length in his limbs. At the plate he stands balanced and tall with a high back elbow as the hands bounce the bat off the shoulder. He rocks into a foot lift as the body and hands lift and turn the barrel head towards the pitcher. The bat showed flashes of quickness working on a flat path with time of being more uphill and finishing in a strong hitting position. He barreled two ball right at the CF picking up a RBI and BB before striking out in his last AB. Defensively he had some issues with poor footwork leading to rushed throws that were offline. From his mid-slot the ball can take off and that’s exactly what happened. After being at SS for four innings, Kachel hopped on the mound where his live arm showed well. He went the last four, pitching out of a bases loaded jam and inducing weak contact while walking two and striking out three. His hands start at the face dropping to the waist and back up driving down the hill early to create momentum. The arm is long out of the glove having some depth behind the back before getting to a M3/4 release point. The front shoulder opens early to help the arm get to it’s release, but also helps to produce some late arm speed. The FB was 83-85 T86 MPH and was able to spot to both sides of the plate and there was times where he completely lost the zone. When he missed it was mainly arm-side and through the zone due to the arm not being in time with his body. The SLD flashed tight, short depth with times of tilt to the glove side (67-75 MPH) and mainly used for the punchout. A L/R profile for a SS with a live arm are all great tools to have and Kacel has a chance to take those tools to the next level.
