PBR NorCal Uncommitted Senior Games: Catcher Profile

Strong, medium frame showing some rolled strength in the shoulders; strength should keep coming as he keeps maturing. High hands, high back elbow stance with balance; gets into his lower half well and drives the backside. Hands are direct to the baseball showing a quick turn to contact and staying on plane through the zone; ball had some lift towards the middle of the field and a strong extra-base swing. During the games showed his bat speed turning on a mid-80’s FB to LF for a strong double along with beating out an infield single. The defense was very good and showed the tools to be a standout behind the dish. The arm is loose and his agility behind the plate was evident (74 MPH, 2.0-2.18 Pop). During the games his defense was a standout with above-average game management and receiving; blocking was solidly average and showed his ability to stop the run game catching a runner at 2nd (2.19 Pop).

10/06/19

PBR Norcal Uncommitted Senior Games - Athletic and agile in his 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame moving well once in stride and able to pick up speed (7.19 60-yard, 4.68T). Defensive skills were consistently evident as he smothered balls behind the plate and had great receiving skills; the catch and throw is solid keeping the ball on the bag and able to throw behind runners (2.00-2.15, 2.19 CS in game). Top velocity on pops was 74 mph. Really liked his ability to call pitches and work with different arms. At the plate picked up a long 2B over the LF’s head flashing that flat bat path throughout BP as he worked gap-to-gap with easy carry. Exit velocity is something to work on, as he posted a top velocity of 82 mph in 5 swings off the tee.

3/02/19

at St. Francis - Compactly built with solid strength on his 5-foot-10 170-pound frame, good size for a catcher and moved around like a Russell Martin type of athlete back there, did a great job behind the plate all game long. He isn't the regular starter, that is senior who signed with a D1 program but haven't seen many kids this spring better than what he showed in terms of receiving and blocking. His lateral agility stood out as he repeatedly shifted quickly to his right to surround, block, control balls in the dirt, saving multiple bases. The arm strength came in at 76 mph and he tossed down a fairly casual 2.11 warm-up pop time. His pitchers all were very comfortable bouncing off-speed pitches in any situation
