2020 San Marcos third basemen and Butler commit Billy Wurch is listed at 5’ 11” 190 pounds in a mature proportional build. Defensively struggled to decide whether to come and get the ball or stay back and fire to first. Needs to be more assertive when fielding ground balls and making a strong throw to first every play. Range and lateral movement were average but the body plays well and should be able to develop more range. At the plate looks comfortable with a low stance and backside power load. Showed an above average eye at the plate and the willingness to let strikes go in order to generate the pitch he is looking for. Struggled to keep his weight back on good pitches to hit and looked to pull regardless of location. Willingness to hit to all fields coupled with cleaning up his defense should make him a starter down the line at Butler.

1/13/18
Uncommitted. Standing at 5-foot-11, and 165 pounds, Wurch has a frame with squared/broad shoulders, lean, proportional strength, defined upper half, wiry strength that projects for more. Sophomore shortstop who projects to stay at the position given his athleticism and instincts at the position. Funnels the ball out front in an athletic position, shows range to both sides, present arm strength for the position produces online throws with carry. Advanced pre-pitch routine, leader on the diamond. Offensively he employs an upright, neutral stance, present bat speed and strength to pull side, gap-to-gap hitter, can drift at times. Average runner, instinctive on the bases, quicker than fast, clocked 4.51 home-to-first from the right side. Covers entire plate. First guy out of the dugout. Always picked up his teammates. Plays enthusiastically.
