Hit: RHH. Balanced stance. Taller upper half with a flat bat. Rhythmic hands. Simple load/trigger. Advanced bat/hand speed via blast. Uphill bat path. Works behind a firm front side/leg at finish. At times flashed a kick back with back foot. More FBs than LDs/GBs. Consistent out front contact. Pullside HR power.
Arm: RH. C - 77 mph. Above avg. arm strength. Shorter AA. Higher slot. Lower arcing throwdowns, 1-hopping some of them. 3/5 accurate.
Defense: 1.99 - 2.04. Clean exchanges. Quick out the crouch. Taller posture into throwdowns. Noticeable receiving/blocking ability showing some athleticism back there. Sturdy base that stays quiet with minimal movement.
Delivery: Clean mover. Exclusive from the stretch. Belt high leg lift that initiates drift. More IR dominant driveleg. Decent lower sit/engagement. Larger stride. Fast down the mound. Works in good direction. Quality block into landing.
Arm Action: Hand lead path. Loose/quick AA. Easy effort. More velo in the tank. Gets into some scap engagement. Works to a H 3/4 slot.
FB: 83-84: Straight action. Flashed some carry. Lower tendency.
CB: 73-75: Shorter breaker. Averaged about 5 inches of sweep/drop. Average spin. Tunnels well. Quality chase pitch
CH: 77-79: Kills about 8 inches of VB of FB. More of a straight change. Small amount of added fade. Got it under barrels.
Defense: 2.02-2.11 pop times. Shows good feel and comfort behind the plate, blocking tool needs improvement, handles pitchers well.
Arm: RH. C - 70 mph. INF - 77 mph. Compact throwing mechanics, release is quick, 70 mph catcher throwdown velocity is good not great.
Hit: RHH. Comfortable short staggered setup, hands relaxed at shoulder height, lower half drives into hitting base. Short to the ball, displayed good timing, high bat speed for class, lower half rotation needs improvement.
Power: 88 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Run: 7.89 runner in the 60.
Uncommitted. Five-foot-7, 145-pounds. Large frame with squared shoulders and strength throughout. Starts open at the plate using a leg lift trigger to get his swing started. Stays balanced through to extension. Present strength is noticeable at the plate where he drove balls to all fields with a slight uppercut barrel path through the zone. Shows present hand/bat speed with excellent timing. Registered a 78 mph exit velocity off a tee. Defensively he sets u deep in his crouch using his lower half strength to explode out of his crouch with excellent footwork. Transfers were clean and his arm shows present strength and accuracy. On the mound he showed feel for a three-pitch mix from a true dip-and-drive delivery that sees him sink his hips onto the back leg before driving down the mound. Compact arm through to a 3/4 release point. Arm is quick and clean. Fastball shows hints of run to the arm side while working from black-to-black. Changeup shows late diving action to the back foot of righties on a downhill plane. Showed the ability to start the pitch away and run back over the plate. Curveball is a tight spin pitch and showed two types of break - one sharp and biting and the other more of a tumbling break.
Rising Stars Showcase - Five-foot-7, 145-pounds, medium frame that is long in appearance with wiry strength. Long limbs and large feet. At the plate Wirthgen shows some present bat speed and feel for the barrel while consistently keeping his hands inside the ball. Flashes some pull side pop with a gap-to-gap approach. Curveball shows early with 2/8 shape. Slowed arm on the pitch at times while keeping it down in the zone. Changeup really projects as a future plus pitch. Maintains fastball arm speed and pitch shows sinking action to the back foot of righties.
