7/2016 - The 6-foot, 190-pound senior sat 92-93, clean and easy, high-3/4 slot, working slightly across his body. He threw a high-volume of strikes and also threw a sharp 78-80 mph breaking ball.

11/2/19: At 6’2, 195, Lomeli started the game for SMC with a strong two inning outing seeing him strike out three and get three other weak outs. Working with a low-3/4 slot, smooth circular backside arm action and calm cool mound presence, Lomeli can sink the fastball (89-91, T92 MPH) and showed control on both sides of the plate consistently working down in the zone. He showed both the CB (71-73 MPH) and SLD (76-82 mph) during the look, with slider having quick lateral bite though not sharp to the point of being a consistent swing and miss offering; the CB had early bend and late drop working in 10/6 action mainly as a show pitch. Best secondary pitch was change-up (80-85 mph) thrown with excellent finish and the ability to double and triple up on it. Showed ability to pitch backwards and keep hitters off his fastball with use of his secondary stuff which allowed the fastball to play up. Mixed pitches well and with his ability to throw any pitch in any count he can go through a line-up multiple times.

8/14/19: Sat 89-to-91 mph with his fastball while folding in an upper-70s changeup with fringe-average action and a fringy slider at 82 mph. Lomeli flirts with average stuff but is too loose in the zone at present, leading to lots of hittable offerings despite flashing swing-and-miss stuff and punching out almost a batter per inning. He profiles as a potential Day Three senior sign. (Faleris)

7/20/18: Another West Coast arm that stood out for the Ripken League was Saint Mary’s righty Carlos Lomeli, who earned the win with two scoreless innings against the SCBL. Like Clarke, Lomeli was very efficient and dominated thanks to his advanced command. The 6-foot, 190-pounder lacks serious projection, but he makes up for it with his polish, locating at 89-90 and mixing in a good, sharp three-quarters breaking ball at 75-77 and a deceptive changeup at 80-82. Gaels coach Eric Valenzuela said last fall that Lomeli was “every bit of a 92-94 strike-thrower,” but he did not show that kind of velocity Tuesday. He certainly is a strike-thrower with a quality three-pitch mix, and if his better velocity returns he could establish himself as a top-five-rounds prospect. (Aaron Fitt)
