ACG Tryout - Well built, with tree trunks for legs. Chamberlain shows great composure at the dish and behind it. His smooth, simple swing generates easy pull side juice and loft. Also, Chamberlain receives and blocks well. However, a 73 mph arm and 2.10-2.18 pop times are modest, but there is no questioning how valuable Chamberlain’s can/will be. He ran a 7.19 second 60 yard dash.
Event: NorCal ProCase
Positional Profile: C/3B
Physical: 6-2, 210 pounds with strong and stocky legs.
Offensively: LH. EV max – 96.7 mph, hand speed max – 20.6 mph, bat speed max – 72.2 mph; Balanced and patient at the plate, extended short leg lift to point of contact. Very limited movement in the swing until before contact when he torques back with his load.
Defensively: C Velo – 74 mph; Pop Time 2.09 - 2.15 sec; Gets to his feet fast with slight off-centering of the feet as the ball comes in. Gets his arm into a throwing position simultaneously as he moves up and towards second base and fires right away.
at Redwood - Lean athletic body, coming off a nagging recent oblique issue, caught all 7 innings, arm mid-70s on pops between innings, showed in-game accuracy and catch/throw game is sound, deft at framing on his arm side, can make somewhat big and occasionally too quick glove movements when receiving, offensively shows patience and ability to execute a plan, can work to middle of field with two strikes with early count approach heavy to the pull side. Plenty of talent and skill and will have him in mix among top 2024 catchers in the area when it comes to draft consideration.
vs Tamalpais - Strong athletic body type, caught quite well, excellent receiver to all quadrants, particularly adept at stealing strikes on low pitches, blocked well and smothered numerous BIDs with runners at 3B, raw arm strength is adequate, C/T skills showed up as a positive when on a curveball when he just missed nabbing an above average runner at 2nd base. Offensively can be a bit out on the front foot and showed some susceptibility to the CHG, had a deep fly ball to the RF wall in his last AB that wasn't struck all that well but the field is small and the wind blows to RF which would appear to enduce/tempt the LHHs at this school to the pull side as a primary approach.
