UCLA commit. Paton continues to pound balls with his smooth, powerful left-handed swing. Paton hit a few balls off the net above the fence in right-center-field during his BP rounds while also peppering the gaps with line drives. There’s no wasted movements in the UCLA commit’s swing with consistent, quick hands that keep his barrel on plane through the hitting zone. Shows athletic actions defensively both at third and first base where his footwork really stands out. He’s light on his feet although not a burner on a straightaway run. Smart base runner who will take the extra base.

Paton, UCLA recruit, showcased a mature approach at the plate, and was one of the more intriguing players from the 2020 class coming out of the weekend. Listed at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, the left-handed hitter looks thicker and stronger than that in person with some strength present in the lower-half. His hands flow back with a minor leg kick before working the barrel quickly uphill through the zone. He demonstrates the ability to drive the ball from gap to gap, and will likely develop even more power in the future as his frame still shows signs of adding strength.

2018 Underclass Area Code Games - UCLA Commit. Paton showed his knack for peppering the left-center field gap the entire weekend. The approach worked plenty as Paton was on-base after hits an awful lot. Paton uses a toe-tap load before a short-to-and-through the zone barrel path. Shows excellent use of his lower half in his swing. Keeps his hands inside ball through contact before getting extension. Defensively Paton showed some versatility playing third and first base and doing both well.
