7/12/19

Area Code Games Underclass tryout - Long Beach State commit; not much different than multiple previous looks, overhand slot, pulls body/head to 1B side in effort to get arm stroke through which limits extension and consistency of release point, BIG overhand curveball with tumbling action and 11/6 shape

4/17/19

vs Jesuit HS at Fresno Easter Classic - Long Beach State commit; Lean athletic body type that's well-proportioned, defined legs, overhand slot, front shoulder pulls hard through and can tend to limit full release point/extension, arm works easily though stuff was a bit down from what we've seen and life was lacking, fastball 83-84 mostly with T85 mph. Big 66-67 mph curveball with smooth rolling action lacked bite, showed feel of 76-78 mph change-up and willingness to use it, occasional fade action and displayed potential for at least average feel. Fields position quite well, calm mound presence, handled tough moments well. Plenty of good stuff here now and projects favorably for the college game.

2/12/19

vs Clovis North - LBSU commit. Lean athletic build, played outfield in this game (committed to SMC as a pitcher) and showed he's got talents to offer as an offensive player. Didn't end up with results but the competitive at-bats were there vs one of state's top left-handers, long grinding at bats, fouled off some pitches he'd like to have back, also lined out to centerfield. Swing happens easy, works to use whole field and showed ability to stay on fastball and also saw curveball well. With a bit better barrel control on way to ball he's got a shot to really hit at the high school level and perhaps beyond. Aggressive in the box and seems very comfortable in the heat of a game.

8/25/18

PBR N CA Underclass Games - 6-foot-0, 175-pounds, lean and strong with a well-proportioned build, one of the top players in Northern California in 2021 class, talented two-way player, overhand slot, athletic delivery with a quick clean arm action, strong lower body and uses it well to repeat delivery, good fastball angle with tilt, late life through the zone as a result of his ability to get to extension, does a good job of clearing front hip on time, easily carved up the four batters he faced, ability to control fastball on the opposite arm side was quite good, mixed in 11/5 curveball with good spin and showed feel of the pitch. Highly recruitable 2021 pitcher. As position player he’s a prospect, good bat speed, balanced throughout swing, aggressive through the ball, good separation, ball leaves bat well, two game at-bats resulted in two well struck balls in middle of field. Defensively has a plus arm and approaches the ball with athleticism and good mechanics. Throws left hand well with good accuracy and  carry, threw out runner at home during the game. Ran bases well and aggressively. Wasn’t anything he didn’t do well during the day.

3/27/18

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame that really projects future growth in height and mass. The freshman righty was impressive from the first pitch forward showing a three-pitch mix with a fastball, a strong curveball, and a developing changeup. His delivery is deliberate and repeatable. There are some mechanical things to clean up - he flies open at times and lands on his heel at time. Garcia is very athletic on the mound and fields his position well and under control. He shows loose wrists with strong hands. Command was there on the fastball and curveball, while his changeup was inconsistent, but effective. Garcia has a fast arm that creates downhill plane from his high ¾ slot. His fastball flashes cut action while working 83-85 mph and touching 87 mph. Garcia commanded the pitch to all quadrants of the strike zone, mixing locations very well to keep hitters off balance. Garcia's curveball shows lots of potential with a 12-6 break that is tight and flashes good depth and sharp action. He works the pitch both in and out to hitters showing excellent command. The pitch worked 70-72 mph. Garcia's changeup is developing and was a good change of pace but his command on it is a work in progress sitting 74-77 mph.
