A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommmitted; Later learned he was pitching through some back pain issues; arm action is clean, body is attractive, got the FB up to 85 even at less than 100%, aggressively threw strikes w/all 3 pitches. When healthy he's one to keep an eye on.
6/16/20
Scrimmage - Uncommitted - Looked good considering the long layoff in spring; lean athletic body with good lower half, quick arm, some stab behind him out of the glove but gets to pretty short AA from there, arm is quick but not powerful yet, sneaky stuff comes from the sneaky arm quickness and some deception, has good feel of the zone, located 83-85 mph well, best pitch is CHG 77 mph that he can back-to-back and particularly well to LHH, slider is more cutter like at 76 mph. Good pitcher, will have to see how the stuff comes on.
7/12/19
Area Code Games Underclass tryout - Uncommitted; high-3/4 slot, deep backside arm action with some stabbing toward 1B, good foot strike and lower body direction creates ability to balance and maintain consistent release point, fastball velocity still a bit short but he displayed fastball control, wide curveball, best pitch was change-up and it showed well multiple times in the live at-bats. Needs more time to develop the velocity but when it arrives (if) he has a good repertoire and ability to throw quality strikes.
8/25/18
N CA Underclass Games - 5-foot-11, 150-pounds, lean athletic build, high waist/long legs, good baseball build. Two-way player stood out on the mound. 3/4-slot, loose and easy arm action, projectable arm action for future velocity gains though does swing arm behind his body which can be tough to sync up with lower body, good direction down slope, athletic delivery works toward a good front side. Sneaky fastball velocity, good fastball life with sink, slider with Frisbee type lateral break, plenty to like and dream on as a pitcher. Offensively very calm in the box, tall set, quiet set-up, simple small stride, stays behind ball well and takes hands inside the ball, willing to work where pitched. Gap to gap type hitter, ball leaves bat well, projects to develop some extra base pop. Stayed in middle of field in both game at-bats with good contact both times. Good outfield arm, arm works well out there as well, conservative approach to the ball, tends to really slow feet as he fields which hurts momentum as he readies to throw. Athletic young player, looks to be stronger pitching prospect at this time but should continue to play and evolve as a two-way player.
