Event: NorCal Uncommitted Games – showing pushed him into the rankings
Body: 6-1, 187-pounds. Broad upper body, lean strength throughout, athletic build.
Delivery: Lifts to mid-chest height, brings hands up to chest, aggressive move down the slope into long slight cross body stride, drives from rubber with powerful backside, slight heel land, quiet head as quick arm comes through, works from 1B side of rubber, backside comes through then takes him a bit back up the slope as he turns toward the 1B side baseline.
Arm Action: Loose and long on backside, no restrictions, quick arm though has control of his arm stroke, gets to traditional 3/4 release.
FB: T88.7 mph, 87.2 avg mph, 2292 max spin; Aggressive use of the FB, pounded the glove side location, flashed willingness and ability to get inside to RHH, extension out to 6’1” avg quickens up the FB which also has above average horizontal movement, lower release height with ability to keep FB on plane and use up in the zone.
CB: 75-78 mph, 2272 max spin; Resembles the SL though some grip/release adjustment to get more downward movement and depth.
SL: 76-78 mph, 2252 max spin; Quick breaker with feel for release, late enough and big enough movement to start bats and get contact just off the barrel, ground ball-getting pitch in the zone and flashed depth to get swings and misses out of zone.
NorCal Uncommitted Games (Quick Hits notes) - Strong athletic build on 6-foot-1, 187-pounds, he's a good bet to get up to 90 mph this spring. Strong quick arm with an athletic delivery, showed ability to hold velocity (86.6 avg mph) and get his peak (88.7 mph) when he wanted it. Averaged 2200 spin while pounding the glove side location. Has both SL and CB though they are so similar (SL 76.9 avg mph, 2157 avg spin, 8:00 tilt / CB 76.5 avg mph, 2092 avg spin, 7.45 tilt) which suggests choosing one over the other or making an adjustment to create more variance between the two would be useful.
