Uncommitted talent & #144 in CA 2019 class, was one of the few guys to see the opposing pitcher well today. At the plate he has a fairly simple setup with high hands. He stride is simple and he gets his foot down early and allows his hands to work. He showed a great approach on back to back at bats hammering a first pitch breaking ball down the third base line and then next at bat hitting a first pitch fastball for an opposite field home run. The bat speed is good and he is a big strong kid that uses his big lower half well in his swing. He runs well, but is not a burner and may need to move to a corner outfield spot at the next level. Coach spoke highly of Brandel and says he is an extremely hard worker. He is uncommitted now, but some program will get a steal with this guy.
at Serra HS - uncommitted and one of the better ones in the area, not only had a big game, but the hit tool, including plus bat speed, power, and a gap/gap approach, along with his streamlined/sculpted 6-foot-2, 190-pound body, all of which adds up to define him as a prospect, regrettably missed getting video of the homer but it was clear from his first swing that he has bat speed and pop. He's got that bat speed, keeps the barrel in the zone and is short to the ball, while creating good separation. The homer came on fastball that was a little up and he stayed above it with his top hand and drove it over the wall in left-centerfield. Not a burner on the bases but moves well. The arm is above average, with a quick release and good accuracy.
Summer Upperclass Tourney - Strong athletic build with good athleticism, showed a balanced approach and good plate discipline, middle of field approach and found a lot of barrel in multiple at-bats. /// BP notes: good body, gets hands through contact, good separation, good balance, tools are there to hit
