PBR NorCal Uncommitted Senior Games: Catcher Profile

Full build with strength in squared frame; body still can shape a bit more for added strength. Tall stance with hands set at back shoulder; gradual hand load showing slight lift. Hands are loose and able to whip barrel into and through the zone with some speed; creates a bit of wrap early but still able to get barrel head out front. Flat path through the zone lifting on contact as he drove balls on a line towards the middle of the field (85 EV). Bouncy behind the plate showing a very quick transition to a loose arm (75 MPH, 1.94-2.11 Pop); athletic behind the plate showing ability to move laterally and get to blocks both in workouts and during the games. During the games his ability to call pitches was impressive as was the receiving skills; one of his carrying tools. Battled at the plate during games showing his footspeed with a SB after a BB and squared up a ball at the 3rd baseman

10/06/19

PBR Norcal Uncommitted Senior Games - Agility behind the plate evident both in games and during workouts for solidly built 6-foot-0, 195-pound frame. Excellent blocking, receiving and game calling behind the dish during the games beating balls to the spot and presenting well to steal some strikes. Transfer from glove to throwing hand is quick allowing for handspeed out front (1.93-2.00 workouts, 2.11-2.15 between innings), 75 mph was top throwing velocity in workout, which is an area for some improvement. Barrel worked flat through the zone during BP with ability to lift on contact; the loose hands can get through the zone and match well with his solid understanding of the zone. Calm demeanor in BP round displayed good pre-pitch approach and confidence in his stroke.

8/25/18

Uncommitted; 6-foot-0, 185-pounds, thicker stout body type, chance to develop a powerful body. Ranked player in the state. Bat talent is present and he takes hacks to do damage. Maintains good balance throughout swing, pull side power is present now, some slight lift can provide carry, ball leaves his bat well particularly when he got separation from his body, could be bit more linear to access more of the full field, game at-bats also showed same ability to make plus barrel contact and drive the ball. Physicality with bat should continue to show up more frequently as he gains more muscularity. Defensively has soft hands, fairly efficient footwork and profiles as a corner defender with a chance to handle 3rd base. Arm is strong enough to play across the diamond, could get rid of ball quicker.

6/03/18

6/1/18-6/3/18 BAWS 2018 - Body type description from March holds up. Tall stance with high front shoulder; uses small load to coil into back hip before unloading late barrel with above average raw pull power. Average arm flashing more on throws; utilizes good footwork and flat back to make plays in infield. Not a great runner, 4.75 down the line, but shows good agility in a small area that will translate to 3rd base, possibly a corner outfield spot.

3/27/18

at Boras Classic - Uncommitted; Thick strong build but surprisingly agile and light footed at a listed 6-foot-0 185-pounds that looks a bit bigger than that in person. Physical hitter with a chance to hit for power from line to line. Starts with slightly closed stance which can occasionally lead to some hooking of the ball but he attacks the ball in front of the plate at a very strong point of contact. Showed extra base pop to both gaps and the power will play as long ball power down the road. Strong hands and good barrel awareness. Defensively played both corners and displayed soft hands and good footwork at both spots. Very good reads on balls in dirt at 1st base and soft hands picked multiple throws. Closed well on the ball at 3rd base and arm played across the diamond with ease. Chance to be a physical hitting 3rd baseman with more than adequate defensive skills.
