4/09/19

At Scotts Valley - San Diego State Commit. Large frame continues to strengthen and thicken while allowing for athletic actions. Continues to be an offensive weapon hitting atop the lineup showing a strong recognition of the zone with the ability to spark the offense any day. Did that in this game with HR over RCF on FB over the middle of the plate. Bat-to-ball skills continue to show up and as he continues to mature will translate well to the next level. Tall, slightly open stance keeping high hands and high back elbow; fluid load pulling hands down into strong launch position showing good tilt in his shoulders. His best swing occurs when he’s not trying to muscle up but just focus on being smooth through contact and allowing natural strength to show up, which there is plenty of. Runs well with athletic stride (4.53 H-1st) and continues to show baseball instincts with his ability to pick good spots to run; stole 2nd base on breaking ball. Frame and bat continue to project well for college level.

3/29/19

Vs Aptos - Continues to show bat-to-ball skills while working good AB’s. In game winning AB, had some poor pitch selection early but adjusted and knocked hanging breaking ball into left field. Good instincts on the base-paths picking off-speed counts to steal 2nd twice then drawing a throw at 3rd when in no-man’s land to score the 1st run for the Cardinals. Liked seeing him embrace the moment when runners were on late in the game, but also need to understand the situation and stay within himself; 1st swing was trying to hit the ball out of the park when a single wins it. I’ll take that type of passion and determination to win on my team all day.

3/19/19

At Harbor - SDSU Commit. Large frame is starting to fill in more and that added strength will help the bat continue to play at the next level. Body is turning him into a 3B/1B/RF type though I’ve only seen him at 1B. Stands tall with slight bend in knees keeping high hands and high back elbow; pulls hands down and back with slight knee lift and tuck. Quick bat with the ability to square up pitches at any time; aggressive hitter who doesn’t get cheated on his pitch. Started the game off with 2B over CF head before hitting two more missiles through the middle and 5/6 hole. Athletic runner with good stride length that utilizes same aggressive approach from hitting on the basepaths. Times where overly aggressive; back picked on drag bunt at 3B making too big of a turn. Moves well at 1st base and is making adjustments being over there more; was working before the game on picks and showing better targets for his infielders on throws across.

3/14/19 vs Leigh - SDSU Commit. On base three times today with a line drive to RF in his first AB and two BB’s to follow. Continues to show good AB’s, being patient and understanding his zone while looking for pitches he can do damage to; regularly hits from a strong launch position. At the plate stands tall with slight bend in knees keeping high hands and high back elbow with some pre-pitch bat rhythm. Pulls hands down and back with slight knee lift and tuck. Good piece of hitting in 1st AB taking pitch down and away and going that way for single into RF. Defensively at 1B, Felix will need to keep working on his bag skills. Missed a pick on a bang-bang play and limited range over there. The bat is going to continue to play so finding a defensive position will be key for him reaching his ceiling.

3/5/19 vs St Francis - SDSU commit. Felix started the game for Santa Cruz at 1st base hitting in the 3-hole and shows a large frame with strong broad shoulders and strength in the lower half. At the plate he stands slightly open, tall and balanced with hands high bouncing off the back shoulder. He turns the barrel with his hands on load, gaining ground with his front leg and swinging over a stiff front leg. The bat swings around the back arm and works on a slight upward path being quick to the ball and flashing leverage in his swing. Felix barreled a FB back through the middle in the 1st and just got under one for a flyout in his 2nd AB finishing 1-2 with a HBP. At first base he's got fringe average range and will need to work on staying on the bag to help his infielders. He came in to pitch the last two innings and showed an easy mid-3/4 arm. His delivery starts with hands at the waist that rise on his front leg allowing his arm to have an efficient swing into that mid-3/4 release. Early in the outing he was getting around the baseball and pulling it out of the zone, but quickly adjusted and showed the ability to spot to both the arm and glove side working through the bottom of the zone. His FB was 82-86 T88 early in the outing and working 82-84 in the 2nd inning. In the 2nd inning Felix showed more of his CB (70-74) that was short with tight spin and short depth mainly to the glove side and showing feel being able to go back-to-back. The CHG (76-77 MPH) was only used once or twice, but showed late armside sink and can be a quality third pitch. Felix missed all of last year on the hill and if he can work his way back to being there on a regular basis, will show he’s a legit 2-way prospect.

7/13/18 - San Diego State commit. Attended USA PDP as position player, showed raw power in BP, potentially big raw power down the road, big swing but gets through contact with strong finish. Showed power to both left and centerfield, uphill swing and forced everything in the air, starts with high back elbow and creates length and leverage to create that power, ability to control the barrel vs quality pitching will be something to watch for. Defensively worked out at 1st base, showed good feet and an accurate arm. Live at-bat result was K on 86 FB up from LHP.

3/23/18 - San Diego State commit. 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame; long, lanky and projectable with building strength in core/lower half. Legit 2-way player with ability to swing bat and become a Friday Night type of guy. DH only viewing as he works his way back into baseball shape. 0-0 with 2BB, 2SB, 1R, 1 Sac Fly RBI. Slightly open, high hands balanced stance; strong rotation around stiff back leg with hands sinking into back pocket. Plus hand speed matched with aggressive approach looking to do damage on pitches up; bat stays in zone extended amount of time before finish up around front shoulder. Ability to adjust hands for offspeed and has strong zone recognition. Plays with a spark showing confidence through physical action and execution. Quick first step on basepaths; uses long legs to gain ground with controlled effort. Opportunity to be a special baseball player.
