8/14/19: Listed at just 5-foot-11, 182 pounds, Southern California LHP John Beller (2020) showed this summer he has the stuff to tackle life in a D1 rotation, punching out 32 batters in his 30.2 innings of work while posting a 1.17 WHIP and .231 average. The USC lefty works in the mid-to-upper 80’s with his fastball, which features good ride and plays particularly well off of his quality low-80s slider – his best offering showing deception out of the hand, good shape and late action. He’ll also mix in an upper-70s changeup and mid-70s curve, each of which can draw empty swings. He’s likely a Day Three guy right now but could get an opportunity to show what his stuff can do in a starter role next spring. (Faleris)
