Cape Cod: Halbach took a big step forward as a sophomore this spring for the Tritons, hitting .306/.406/.500 with five homers and 15 doubles in 206 at-bats, and he was even better for Orleans, hitting .364/.455/.512 with three homers, five doubles, two triples and 15 RBIs in 121 at-bats. He showed good barrel awareness and decent plate discipline, though he struck out (24) twice as often as he walked (12). A 6-foot-3, 215-pound power hitter, Halbach has an intriguing combination of strength and hittability. With a wide base, a short stride and a powerful swing, Halbach is an imposing figure in the righthanded batter’s box, where he comes across as hitterish, to put it simply. We saw him wear out the middle of the field with hard line-drive contact, and he also showed some power to all fields over the course of the summer. He should only get stronger as he continues growing into his big frame, and it’s easy to dream on his offensive upside. Halbach played third base this spring for UC San Diego, but he spent the summer at first, where he is a very good, athletic defender. He also runs just well enough that he would likely be able to hold his own if needed in left field. But if Halbach shows SoCal scouts that he can handle the hot corner, and if his power continues to emerge next spring, he could be a top-five-rounds pick.
Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Profiles as middle of the line-up hitter, power & arm project as plus tools, above avg runner/fielder. On mound flashes rotation quality stuff, including FB up to 87 and a hard CB (76-78). There is a lot of Stephen Piscotty type talent in him (yes, saw him repeatedly in HS and at this same event, twice, as well).
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 6-3, 190-pounds. Long, athletic frame that has more room for good weight and muscle.
Defense: Athletic, rangy and can cover a ton of ground.
Arm: OF - 88 mph. Above average and accurate; plays on the mound as well.
Hit: RHH. Wide base, slightly open with neutral hand position. Aggressive approach to ball with excellent bat speed. Impacts the baseball and it's loud
Power: 101 mph exit velocity. Over the fence power potential as he begins to fill out.
Run: 7.24 runner in the 60.
Delivery: High 3/4, falls to 1B side.
Arm Action: Clean
FB: T87, 83-86 mph.
CB: 75-76 mph.
SL: 74-75 mph.
CH: 78-79 mph.
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
One of top uncommitted players in the region in the 2021 class.
Body: 6-foot-3, 190-pounds. Long and lanky, ample room for size and strength gains.
Defense: Athletic and confident approach, sees it and reads it early, feet set him up to get rid of ball quickly. Profiles to a corner w/average range.
Arm: RH. OF - 85 mph. Loose arm, quick arm, gets ride of it quickly, arm will play as above average from corner OF spot.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, feet just wider than shoulders, very slight crouch, hands held slightly higher than shoulder height, looks comfortable at plate. Rhythmic knee lift/load, hands get back a bit away from body. Swing happens easily with looseness, flexible wrists should allow for swing adjustability, maintains quiet head and balance through the swing, power will develop with strength gains.
Power: 90 mph exit velocity in cage front toss session.
Run: 7.01 runner in the 60.
Delivery: All from stretch, waist high lift in modified slide step, good timing leaving rubber, on-line stride, slight heel land and fanning of strike foot.
Arm Action: RH. Compact arm action, mid-thigh depth, clean quick arm, high-3/4 slot.
FB: T85, 83-85 mph. Flashes abv avg run, pounds zone, crisp through zone.
CB: 75-76 mph. Small downer w/12/6 shape, potential out pitch, throws it aggressively.
CH: 80-81 mph. Pounded bottom of zone, feels it, abv avg run.
