SoCal ProCase:
Body: 6-foot, 175 pounds. Athletic frame with proportional limbs. Sturdy base with some added physicality since last viewing. Room for added mass.
Hit: Neutral set up in the box with a small, quiet load that initiates hip and shoulder separation. Sits into the back hip well and stays grounded throughout the swing. Hands are active and slot into launch position with ease. Barrel works through the zone for an extended amount of time with above average bat speed allowing for hard contact to all fields.
Power: Peak exit velocity of 99 MPH via Trackman in batting practice. Current gap to gap power with some pop to the pull side when he gets ahold of one. Will come with added mass and force production.
Field: Perhaps the strongest aspect of his game, bounced around the infield with ease showing advanced footwork and overall actions. Moved well laterally to both sides fielding balls and making throws in rhythm. Clean double play transfers and feeds. Has the look and demeanor of a professional shortstop.
Arm: Clocked at 80 MPH during his defensive workout. Short and quick arm that plays in the middle infield. Fluid, efficient action that should get stronger as time continues. Prioritized getting the ball out quickly rather than crow hopping to light up the gun.
Run: Ran a 6.79 laser timed 60 yard dash. Runs well with solid form and body control. Room for added speed with continued development.
Summary: It only takes a short time watching Romero to see that this kid can really play. Whether on offense or defense, there is potential for something special to happen at all times when he is playing due to the sheer tools he brings to the table. The actions and presence he commands in the infield is palpable and the ways in which he executes seems nonchalant, yet completely under control. The bat continues to make strides and it will be interesting to see what the in game power develops into as we head into next Spring. With what he has shown thus far, he has certainly made a name for himself and will surely be under the watchful eyes of scouts.
