Lawson has an excellent, projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds. He breezed through his outings at Area Code Games, allowing just one baserunner on an error while striking out six in three innings of work over two appearances. He sat 90-93 in the first before coming back a couple days later and sitting 89-92. He has a slight hip turn in his delivery, which is easy, and a short arm action for someone with long limbs. He left the ball up in the zone some in his second appearance, but he’s athletic and should be able to find average command down the road. His curveball is inconsistent, but at its best when sitting 74-75. He is committed to Arizona State.
8/9/15 - Struck out three and allowed just one baserunner on and error in two innings of work. His fastball was 89-92 with life. His curveball wasn’t as sharp, sitting in the low 70s with rolling break.
8/4/15 - Cruised through his inning, striking out the side on less than a dozen pitches. He sat 90-93 with an easy delivery and mixed in a 74-75 curveball that flashed sharp break.
At 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, Lawson has long, skinny limbs with wide shoulders. He has projection and room to add strength as he matures physically, which should only boost is already intriguing arsenal. He has a fairly easy delivery with good arm speed, producing a fastball at 90-92 with good life through the zone. His curveball is loopier and in the low 70s, but he showed sharper ones with depth at 74-77. He threw 14 of his 19 pitches for strikes in his first outing and followed it up with 23 strikes in 32 pitches in his second. Across those two appearances, Lawson tossed four innings and allowed just one run on three hits. He walked none and struck out five.
6/25/15 - Two clean innings, striking out one and throwing 14 of his 19 pitches for strikes. He has long limbs with wide shoulders, standing at 6-foot-4, 180 pounds. An Arizona State recruit, his delivery is fairly easy and he has good arm speed, generating a 90-92 mph fastball with life through the zone. His breaking ball ranged from 72-77, showing more depth and sharpness in the 74-77 range.
