5/15/19

2019 Eastlake (SDSU), 6-foot-2 185, RHP. Started on the mound and went the distance allowing 1 run over 7 innings. Showed emotion and extreme competitive nature on the mound. Executed pitch location at a college level, showing plus-command of his breaking ball and fastball throughout the course of his outing. Fastball sat at 86-88 mph and topped at 90 mph. Looked like a college weekend starter down the line.

3/3/19 - Displayed pinpoint control en route to allowing no walks and striking out four batters over six innings of work. Rhythm and poise were outstanding and looked determined to win each pitch. Arm effort worked free and easy with a fastball that sat in the 86-88 mph range and accompanied that with a breaking ball in the 76-78 mph range. Ran into some trouble when trying to be too fine in the zone and left a few fastballs up in the zone including a fastball that left the yard off the bat of Jordan Thompson in the games premier pitcher-hitter matchup. Advanced pitchability and physical growth will continue to benefit Tibbett and could put him in line to make an immediate impact with the Aztecs.

1/19/19- 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, tall and lanky, athletic build, broad shoulders, plenty of room for growth. Releases from a high three-quarters arm slot, quick arm speed, loose and easy arm action, average balance, smooth delivery, repeatable mechanics. Spins off towards the first base side occasionally hindering consistent command. Fastball sat in the 86-87 mph range from the wind-up and 83-85 mph range out of the stretch, featuring hard action and little movement. Slider grades out well, sharp power break from a 11/5 plane at a 70-74 mph range and is able to control the pitch on both sides of the plate. Flashed a good change-up with the same arm action as the fastball with arm-side run, sink and fade at a 73-75 mph range. College starter potential with a solid three-pitch mix, body shows ability for a velocity increase and further off-speed development.

1/19/19 - Ricky Tibbett is the No. 60 ranked player in the state Class of 2019 rankings. Worked 86-87 with his fastball that he worked all around the zone for strikes before unleashing a sinking, fading changeup at 74-75 that resulted in swing-and-miss all outing. His slider flashed some bite to it at 70-71 mph. The slider flashes potential to be at least a tick above average. His arm is loose and clean with repeatable mechanics. He pitches with no fear, challenging hitters in every count.

10/22/18 - RHP Ricky Tibbett (Eastlake HS, CA), a San Diego State recruit, handed in one of the more impressive performances of the tournament, and had it not been for a collection of errors in the final inning, would have sent the highly-touted East Coast Sox team home in the first round of the playoffs. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound right-hander is lean and wiry with plenty of room to continue filling out. His fastball worked mostly 84-87 as he demonstrated the ability to command the pitch to the glove side as well as elevate late in counts. Utilizing a short, quicker arm, he mixed in a 70-72 changeup and 69-73 curveball to keep hitters off balance. More than anything, Tibbett "competed", and in challenging the strike zone he put the San Diego Show in a great position to pull the upset.
