at Woodcreek HS - Stanford commit; Athletic body type that looks to fit any sport, started on mound, fastball up to 88 (84-88 mph), ball comes out easy though delivery didn't appear to be totally sync'd up, at best can tilt the FB and corner pitch though adding ability to go just above the belt/hands would be a good addition to his FB usage, breaking ball is a slider (73-74 mph) though comes out with curveball action, threw a few with the type of bit and sharp break that we've seen but more were smooth break lacking bite and too many were hittable and put in play by opposing team (at least three times for hits), lacked the out-pitch in this outing. Early season outing and when all said and done, one of the top talents/athletes in the class should round into form.

6/28/20

Body: 6-foot-1, 185-pounds. Standing next to him he feels a bit less than that with the height, but regardless, he's lean and well-proportioned, with athletic musculature. Can imagine him in pads and looking the part of the best athlete on his side of the ball.

Hit: RHH, it's an athletic set-up with feet a bit wider than his shoulders, slight couch, medium stride, good timing, stays fairly flat w/some lower degree attack angle. Crisp sound off the bat, willing and able to use the middle of the field.

Power: Given his present strength, exit velo, and present swing plane, and middle of the field approach, it appears there are an abundance of extra base hits in his future, doubles and triples and occasional home runs that will be more of the line drive variety vs towering deep blasts. But he will have power and because the swing is easy and fluid, he's going to be able to access that tool.

Field: Pretty conservative approach to the ball, perhaps due to the long-ish, shaggy bermuda type grass. Short, choppy steps, good glove skills, traditional OF footwork to get to his release. Good direction had him in position to take advantage of his plus arm.

Arm: The OF velocity tells the story and seeing the carry on the throws, it's clear that he's got an arm that can be utilized as a deterrent for adventurous and aggressive baserunners. The arm stoke starts by getting deep below his waist, but he starts it early enough and with excellent body control, to be in sync with his feet.

Run: 6.79 was his lowest of two times. Powerful strides, chewing up the yards, again, looking the part of a skill player if he were on a football field.

Summary: When putting it all together, and knowing what I know of him as a pitcher (saw him this June and the stuff was good, if not as crisp as he would have been with a full spring), I'd lean toward him doing more pitching than hitting at Stanford. That aside, strictly as a position player, because that's what he did at the ProCase, he showed every tool that would put him in position to be an elite college player and early contributor. The ability to hit, and how he is able to handle the breaking balls from high level RHPs would be the biggest question to figure out, no different than for any other HS hitter. I see him working in as both a pitcher and hitter early on at Stanford. Perhaps there are relief innings for him, maybe an occasional mid-week start and also spot starts in the OF, with some pinch hit at-bats, some pinch-running appearances, etc. That way the coaching staff gets much more information on this ultra-talented player.

vs San Joaquin Memorial - Uncommitted; Recently saw him in a scrimmage vs Jesuit and was impressed with the talent, so seeing him in a game was a good look. O'Harran has an overhand slot, athletic streamlined body, EASY arm action and the velocity is already showing glimpses of what he will be in the future. The fastball was mostly 83-85 mph, with a low of 81 and high of 86. The breaking ball (71-74 mph) is a bit slurvy/sweepy now and better lower body mechanics will give him better feel and shape of that pitch, and overall control of all his pitches. Tends to yank to the glove side and lose direction to the plate, which obviously affects a consistent release point and ability to manipulate his fingers toward the front of the ball on the breaking pitch. But again, the arm is clean, free and easy and he's an athlete. Learning to work more quickly and improving his mound presence are areas of additional improvement.

2/18/19

Scrimmages vs Jesuit/Bella Vista - Uncommitted as of this report. Athletic build and well-proportioned throughout at 6-foot-1 165-pounds. Did everything easily, with athleticism and some strength. Started Rocklin's second game on the mound and got up to 85 mph (which he will go past in the spring season) with seemingly little to no effort. It did appear as though he was feeling his way through the delivery a bit, with a slower tempo and mechanics that belie his innate athleticism. When the delivery/separation all got in sync his stuff rode easily through the zone. O'Harran also spins the CB (73-74 mph) pretty well though some overthrows of it allowed it to get away from him on occasion. Some had downer action while other he got around and produced slower speeds and sweepy action. He also mixed in a 77 mph change-up. Offensively he displayed bat speed and the ability to spoil pitches. He keeps the bat head in the zone quite a long time and as he stays in his lower body better he will be able to drive the ball from gap to gap.

7/15/18

Large frame with lean, long body and current strength in upper half; athletic with ability to repeat delivery and showed off athleticism in OF as well (6.9 60-yd dash). Offensively only took BP, but showed a balanced swing while keeping even hands and flat bat on shoulder; pull side swing currently with ability to make loud contact into OF (85mph exit velo). Plus arm from RF during workouts showing great footwork and ability to throw balls on line to every base with life through the target. Stood out on the mound where he worked with a simple delivery that allowed his loose arm to show off its quickness before 3/4 release. Excellent balance over the rubber before entire body comes down hill attacking hitters; plus tempo and dominant personality regularly getting back on rubber and looking to put hitters away. FB 83-85 with life at the plate; regularly worked knee high with movement off the plate to both sides and keeping off the barrel of bats. SLD 69-73 with short tilt in 11-to-6 break; when needed pitch would sweep off plate late and was regularly used as strikeout pitch. In 2nd inning, control was lost, but was able to readjust and work through situations with runners on base. Very projectable pitcher that should be followed.
