SUPER 60
Lean build with long levers. Strength in his game and he’s added 10-pounds in the off-season, now 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. Quiet demeanor with strong intentional work habits. Displays confidence! Impressive round of batting practice at the Super 60.
As a right-handed hitter, it’s a slightly open stance, strides to the inside of his front foot and creates a firm front side. Stays stacked with separation on easy load. Hands remain high with minimal wasted movement. Hands create a steep, downward path with whip. Bat path is consistent through the extended hitting zone.

Carey demonstrates the ability to hit line drives, as well as the ability to lift for power. Can project power in his future. Exceptional rotational acceleration and lower half balance (19.3 mph max rotational acceleration, via Blast). He has a controlled, aggressive swing with a definite attempt to punish the ball. Slight lift to finish on follow-through. Unique abilities. Dylan has the ability to hit for average to the middle of the field and is developing the ability to hit for power.

11/01/21

The number one player in Colorado, SS Dylan Carey, has size/athleticism you can dream on at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds and his game translates on both sides of the ball. There’s true power potential in the Nebraska commit’s right-handed bat and he works direct to the ball with lift through the zone. He’s a consistent threat to do damage at the plate and puts up a lot of quality at-bats. Carey looks the part at shortstop with confidence, soft hands and high baseball IQ. It will be really exciting to watch Carey going forward as he adds strength. A high ceiling player and it’s no surprise to see the Ponderosa shortstop so high in the rankings.

10/11/19

Carey, Colorado’s top player in the 2022 class, left little question to that fact after a solid showing at the Underclass World Series. Physically-gifted at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds with broad shoulders on a frame that is easy to dream on, he showcased the potential to blossom into a power bat from the right side in the future.

Setting up in a deeper crouch, he strides early, getting the foot down with minimal hand movement, and works directly to the ball with some lift through the zone. He was a threat in each plate appearance, taking quality at-bats throughout. While he did not have overwhelmingly loud results, he clearly stands out amongst his peers.

A captain on the infield, Carey locked down the shortstop position for Slammers Holzemer, demonstrating confidence in his soft hands, and his high baseball IQ stood out on multiple occasions. Though his frame will likely fill out quickly in coming years and shift him off of shortstop, he should have no problem adjusting to third base given his athleticism.

Carey’s high-ceiling will be reached even quicker as he continues to get more consistent at-bats against high-level pitching. Coaches will likely want to mark him down as must-watch player for next summer.

1/27/19

Uncommitted 2022, Carey has a tall, balanced stance. The load is slow and straight back, gaining good separation and extension. Swing is slightly uphill through the zone but he barrelled everything gap to gap with good bat control, having the ability to cover both sides of the plate. He generated an 89 mph exit velocity off a tee. Contact hitter with feel to hit and future power potential as he fills out. Projects as a future three-hole type of hitter. In the field he showcased good lateral movement to both sides, soft hands, and quick feet. Arm was strong and accurate across the diamond at 82 mph. Ran a simulated dry swing home to first at 4.30.
