8/23/18

5-foot-11, 155-pound, average athletic frame, well proportioned, with room for future development. A right-handed pitcher, pounds the zone with a two pitch mix. The 2-seam fastball has serious sink and run, acts like a changeup when he takes velocity off of it. The fastball reached 82 mph, with a ton more in there. The delivery is simple, works out of a ¾ to high ¾ slot, direction is inline, is on time when stride foot strikes. The front side glove has minimal pull, lead elbow stays inline. Lives in the bottom part of the zone, knows how to expand strike zone when up in count. The breaking ball was clocked at 63 mph, more of a slurvy hammer, could be thrown harder. The spin and shape is correct. Works quick, attacks and knows his way around the mound. Look for velocity to jump, should be one of the better pitches in the class.

3/06/18

5-foot-10, 150 pounds, skinny and projectable, his wiry frame should start filling out over the next few seasons. His shoulders are slightly squared off to go with an average athletic build. A right-handed pitcher, his hands start from the belt to start a simple delivery. He has an average stride with a whippy arm that throws from a ¾ slot, getting downhill on his pitches. Starting from the first base side of the rubber, Carbone ends up planting his lead leg more so towards the third base side. His leg kick is deliberate, and repeatedly found his plant spot and release point, which freshman can often struggle to do. He can be a little slow to the plate, timed at 1.91 during the workout, but continued coaching should help him make gains in that area. Carbone works with a four pitch mix. His fastball, which sits between 74-77 MPH, gets bore and will give same-handed hitters issues. Considering his age and the ability to project out the frame, his velocity should climb each year as well. He mixes in a slow curve between 59-61 MPH that has an 11/5 shape. The pitch can tighten up to induce sharper break, showing potential as a swing-and-miss pitch down the road. His changeup is his most advanced offspeed offering. The pitch is thrown with the same armspeed as the fastball, coming in at 68 MPH, and gets good late fading action. Carbone also threw a slider during the workout. With three years of high school baseball left after this one, it will be exciting to see how he continues to progress. The raw ingredients are there. Carbone will need to continue to develop physically and add strength, as well as progress his pitchability, but there is plenty to like, making him a worthwhile follow in the 2021 class.

Future Games
5-foot-11, 155-pound, young, long, lengthy frame, with room for advancement. A right-handed pitcher, threw extremely well at this event. The arm action is clean, average length, works out of a ¾ to high ¾ slot. The delivery is simple, hands start low, work up with leg raise,  is strong on the back half, small forward lean, builds momentum down the mound. The separation is clean, lead leg has length and lands inline to the plate. The upper half is on track with minimal pull of the glove, gets squared up on release. The arm looks to have hand speed and velocity from the side view.  The fastball reached 84 mph, sitting 78-81 mph with heavy action to arm side, lived in the bottom part of the zone, creates one ground ball after another. The breaking ball needs to be thrown a tick harder clocked at 62-65 mph, at times gets underneath it, small adjustment with finger placement should help velocity. A small slider/cutter would compliment the arm slot and hand speed.  The change up is still a work in progress, clocked at 68-72 mph, shape to it is developing. Pitched two clean innings, threw strikes and worked quick. Will be interesting to see him in the 8-10 months, good follow.
