8.23.18

5-foot-9, 155-pound, smaller, thin, athletic frame. The shoulders are squared off, has room for added weight. A right-handed pitcher with a super quick arm, who can spin the baseball.  The delivery is sound and compact, works from the stretch position the entire time. The hands start and stay low, has an athletic leg raise, back leg is strong and gets loaded up. The arm action is super clean on the back side, has average length, works out of a natural ¾ to higher ¾ slot. The lower half is inline, and has minimal pull to the front glove. The fastball comes out of his hand with ease, clocked at 83 mph, has some cut action to it. The breaking ball is his top pitch, reached as high as 75 mph, good sign the fastball velocity will continue to jump at some point. The breaking ball has depth and tilt to it, throws it in any count, extremely confident with this pitch. Times to the plate were at 1.52, worked quick and attacks the hitters. Big follow, arm works and competes at a high level.

11.1.17

5-foot-9, 150 pounds, lanky, wiry frame, quick twitch athleticism, projectable with plenty of room to add strength to the frame. Throwing from a higher ¾ slot, Moran features a clean arm action. Working solely from the stretch, he gets good extension with a long stride. His hands start by the belt working low throughout. Moran has a slight coil and while the lead leg jets out towards third base at the start of the delivery, his athleticism allows him to repeat his mechanics. Moran pitches downhill with purpose and tempo. Moran gets some sink on the fastball when working low in the zone, touching 80 mph with frequency though tiring towards the end of the bullpen session. His curveball is well-above average at the high school level, coming in between 63-67 mph, showing the desired shape and spin that should produce plenty of strikeouts this spring. The changeup has more room for growth but already has fading action to it between 74-75 mph. In need of consistency, the pitch at times comes in firm with little movement. Moran brings an intriguing blend of projection and production to the table. With another velocity spike in the tank and the present ability to spin a quality breaking ball, Moran is a definite follow this spring.
